    Abstract: A solid propellant rocket motor casing fabricated from strong filament in a matrix of curable polymer known in the trade as a composite motor casing is protected against permeation therethrough over long periods of time of water vapor from the atmosphere by a thin, lightweight, metal foil barrier comprising a metal foil adhesively backed tape such as aluminum foil tape spirally wrapped over the cylindrical or regular surface areas and by a separate, lightweight, metallic shell or dome having a thickness of 0.005 to 0.008 inches adhesively bonded onto the dome ends of the composite material cased solid propellant rocket motor, each metallic shell or dome being made by the use of a plastic or other destructible mold which is first coated with metal by an ion-vapor deposition process to a thickness of less than 0.

These latter photoinitiators are particularly useful in photopolymerizable compositions which are polymerized by exposure to visible laser light.

    Abstract: Composition of an antimicrobial agent and an antioxidant having improved antimicrobial activity compared to the antimicrobial agent alone. The preferred environment of the invention is a composition of a thermoplastic resin, an antioxidant, and an antimicrobial agent, the latter two being compatible with the resin. The resin composition can contain other usual additives, and can be melt processed at an elevated temperature to form articles such as films or fibers having improved antimicrobial activity. A method for improving the efficacy of an antimicrobial agent by combining it with an antioxidant is disclosed. A method for melt-processing a resin composition containing an antimicrobial material is also disclosed, wherein the resin composition includes an antioxidant.

    Abstract: A gas generator for automobile gas bags and the like includes a grain wherein a plurality of wafers of combustible gas generating material is arranged in a side by side array and a plurality of meshed cushion members is disposed in alternating relation between the wafers and compressed between the wafers in order to provide improved burn surface neutrality for more uniform inflator gas flow and better utilization of the gas generant, increased retention of solid residue in the combustion chamber for reduced plugging of the gas filters and cleaner inflation gas, a higher volumetric loading fraction so that the size and weight of the inflator may be reduced, and structural suspension of each individual wafer between the adjacent compressed cushion members to reduce breakage and damage of the wafers during the many years the inflator may remain in an automobile.

    Abstract: A dry film for forming a solder mask includes a cover sheet, a photoimageable composition layer which is curable to form a solder mask and a top coat interposed between the cover sheet and the photoimageable composition layer which is selectively adherent to the photoimageable composition layer. The dry film is applied to a surface of a printed circuit board with a minor portion of the area of the photoimageable composition layer tacked to the printed circuit board. The cover sheet is peeled away. With heat and vacuum, the photoimageable composition layer is laminated to the irregular surface of the printed circuit board, conforming the photoimageable composition layer to the contours thereof and leaving the top coat as a protective covering over the photoimageable composition layer. The photoimageable composition layer is exposed to patterned actinic radiation, developed and cured to form a hard, permanent solder mask.

    Abstract: A radiation gathering reflector and a method of making a radiation gathering reflector. Resin impregnated fibrous material is wound onto a mandrel which has a pair of opposing surfaces of revolution each of which has a shape corresponding to a predetermined shape of the inner reflector surface, and the resin is allowed to polymerize to form a composite which includes two integrally connected structural support members. An equatorial cut is formed in the composite to separate the support members from each other and from the mandrel. Then, a reflective surface is formed on the inner surface of at least one of the separated support members for gathering radiation. Alternatively, the reflective surface is formed on the surface of the mandrel and the resin impregnated fibrous material is wound onto the reflective surface and allowed to polymerize to form the composite.

    Abstract: A lightweight and inexpensive inflator for a vehicle passenger side restraint bag. The inflator includes a thin igniter housing member and also includes a thin arcuate barrier member which defines a combustion chamber for holding gas generant material for combustion thereof. The inflator housing has generated gas outlet apertures only on one side and the barrier member faces that side so that generated gas is directed toward the other side of the housing and is then redirected through a filter pack to the apertures. The filter pack includes a plenum providing screen which is blocked to the entrance of redirected gas by the pressing of other layers of the filter pack against the housing wall whereby the redirected gas is directed through a fibrous filter member before being directed into the plenum and out through the housing apertures.

    Abstract: Unsaturated polyester resin coating powder composition consisting essentially of at least one unsaturated polyester resin; at least one copolymerizable second resin; and an initiator which comprises 1,1'-di(t-butylperoxy)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane (AE), or which contains a small proportion of a fast initiator and a relatively large proportion of a slow initiator as defined herein. Initiator AE has been found to work better as a single initiator than other initiators previously employed in in-mold powder coating formulations. The combination of initiators works better than either one alone, and better than any of the few moderate rate initiators available.

The creases of the first set run both circumferentially and longitudinally with respect to the surface of the cone while the creases of the second set run longitudinally only.

    Abstract: A tactical pulsed missile with a movable nozzle for thrust vector control and movable aerofins to provide greater maneuverability and flexibility. The first pulse is fired at launch and the later pulses are fired as needed whereby steerage may be provided by thrust vector control during the firing of the pulses. When none of the pulses are firing, steerage may be provided by the movable aerofins. The missile is provided with separate small electromechanical actuators for each of the aerofins and each of the movable nozzle axes which are preferably placed closely adjacent the respective aerofins and nozzle so that the weight and space of various linkages may be eliminated. The motors are provided with a source of high voltage so that their size may be reduced whereby they burn up when the high voltage is applied for a short period of time but not before their task has been achieved.
