Abstract: A body worn orthopedic device for use in improving poorly functioning parts of the body includes individual modules that are separately designed and fabricated to meet the needs and requirements of each part of the body that is affected. In the case of an orthopedic device for aiding in alignment of the upper and lower leg bones, the device can include a knee module comprised of a lower thigh engaging portion and a calf engaging portion. A separate and individual lower module is connected to the knee module and can be fabricated from materials that are different from the materials from which the knee module is fabricated. An upper module can also be connected to the knee module. The design of the orthopedic device begins at the knee module and works outwardly, thereby making it possible to design a superior orthopedic device.
