Abstract: A brake control system comprising an electric brake or the like having first and second electrically-operated brake actuators adapted for separate actuation, an operator-responsive controller for applying a first braking signal to the first actuator, and a control circuit responsive to the first braking signal for applying a second braking signal to the second actuator in substantially linear proportion to the first braking signal when the first braking signal exceeds a preselected threshold.
Abstract: A wheel rim assembly comprising a generally cylindrical rim base and a flange ring including a bead seat retained at one axial end of the rim base by a split locking ring. A T-shaped lug on the flange ring captures the ends of the locking ring in a corresponding groove on the rim base and prevents removal of the locking and flange rings when a tire mounted on the wheel rim is inflated. Circumferential grooves on the inside surface of the tire bead seat cooperate with an annular seal in the rim base to prevent inflation of a tire mounted on the wheel rim when the flange ring and bead seat are improperly positioned thereon.
Abstract: A trailer hitch comprising a draw tongue adapted to extend from a trailer, a handle mounted for pivotal movement above the draw tongue, and a cable attached at one end to the handle and extending downwardly through the draw tongue to a hitch coupler which is carried for bodily movement upwardly and downwardly as a function of pivotal motion of the handle. A drawbar adapted to be attached to a towing vehicle is slotted to receive the hitch coupler and recessed to capture the coupler as the latter is moved upwardly by pivotal movement of the handle. A resilient bushing of elastomeric material is captured in compression between the drawbar and the draw tongue resiliently to permit relative movement in all planes and to damp road shock therebetween.
Abstract: A remote control circuit for regulating current to electric trailer brakes as a function of the brake fluid pressure within the tractor brake system or in response to activation of a control arm by the tractor operator. A hydraulic transducer is connected directly to the tractor brake system to produce an electrical signal at the control circuit which varies as a function of the hydraulic fluid pressure. An electromagnetic, pressure-responsive circuit is also disclosed which is operatively connected to the trailer brakes and which retards movement of the operator control arm at the control circuit in proportion to the brake torque applied at the trailer.
Abstract: An axle assembly having an axle tube, a transversely extending adapter plate adjacent an end of the tube, and a spindle projecting generally axially through the adapter plate. The adapter plate and spindle each have circumferentially spaced apart interdigitating fingers fixed thereto and each bearing on and extending generally radially across the end of the tube with the fingers of both the spindle and the adapter plate fixed to the tube by a weld which preferably extends circumferentially continuously around the outer periphery of the tube adjacent the end thereof.

Abstract: A wheel cover with a plurality of axially extending resilient prongs the free ends of which extend through prong receiving holes in the mounting bolt circle area of a disk of a vehicle wheel. The prongs have a cam surface adjacent the free edge thereof which engages the inner edge of the prong receiving holes to abut the free ends of the prongs with the mounting surface of a hub on which the disk is secured to firmly and tightly retain the wheel cover on the wheel.
Abstract: Apparatus for molding a composite styled wheel for use on automotive passenger vehicles and the like, a method of constructing such a wheel employing the molding apparatus and a method of constructing such molding apparatus, wherein a portion of the mold comprises a conventional metal vehicle wheel having a drop center rim secured to a central disc or body having the usual bolt circle holes and a central aperture so that the disc can be mounted on an axle, drum or disc brake assembly. The metal wheel is employed in conjunction with an upper back-up clamp and lower mold part to define therewith a sealed cavity for molding and attaching a three-dimensional contoured plastic overlay, the overlay thus being molded in situ and permanently attached to the outboard side of the wheel in the mold apparatus.
