Abstract: A method and system selects an antenna for signal propagation within a wireless communication device having multiple antennas. A transfer switch controller identifies an operating mode being initiated on the wireless communication device. The transfer switch controller configures a dynamic transfer switch based on the operating mode initiated to support propagation of each available type of communication signal. In addition, the transfer switch controller utilizes a pre-established priority of each available type of communication signal to select the appropriate antenna. The transfer switch controller communicatively connects, utilizing the configured dynamic transfer switch, each of at least one transceiver associated with the operating mode initiated to a specific antenna, where each transceiver supports propagation of a specific type of communication signal.

  • Publication number: 20140168240
Abstract: Disclosed are “graphics overrides.” An override accepts a stream of graphics commands as produced by an application and then modifies the stream before it is rendered by the GPU. Different overrides perform different modifications. One override can modify a stream of graphics commands in response to another stream. Overrides can enforce conformity with a visual paradigm and, by being modified, can support a change to that paradigm without requiring the applications to change. Overrides can monitor the entire computing environment and improve the response to that environment of a particular application: For example, an override monitors frames as they are produced by an application. If the application cannot keep up with a fixed frame rate, then the override produces “synthetic” frames to take the place of missing frames. Overrides are not restricted to fixing existing problems. Rather, applications can be developed that depend upon the presence of overrides.

  • Publication number: 20140162632
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for selecting an inter-radio access technology for an electronic device are disclosed. In an embodiment, a wireless electronic device determines if a first radio signal strength (e.g., LTE) is weak enough that the device should start scanning for another radio access technology (e.g., CDMA). If the first radio signal strength (e.g., LTE) is very weak (e.g., even weaker than the level that caused the device to start scanning), and a second radio signal strength (e.g., CDMA) is above a second threshold, then the device selects the second radio access technology (e.g., switches from LTE to CDMA). If (a) the first radio signal strength (e.g., LTE) is not weak enough to warrant a move to another radio access technology, (b) the second radio signal strength (e.g., CDMA) is not above the second threshold (e.g., not strong enough to warrant a move), and/or (c) a motion sensor determines that the device is relatively stationary (e.g.
