In an embodiment, the diagnostic system is configured to access diagnostic data for at least one component of the motor vehicle, the diagnostic data linking the information about at least one operating parameter of the motor vehicle with information about the at least one component. The diagnostic system is configured to evaluate information about a probability of an occurrence of a fault in the motor vehicle depending on the diagnostic data and depending on the information about the at least one operating parameter.
