    Abstract: Methods for the treatment of both diseases susceptible to the inhibition of mammalian glutamine synthetase and progressive hyperammonemic encephalopathy comprising administering L-methionine S-sulfoxime at a dose not to exceed 10 mg/kg body weight are disclosed. Preferably, the dose should not exceed 8 mg/kg; more preferably, the dose should not exceed 5 mg/kg; most preferably, the dose should not exceed 2.5 mg/kg.
