Patents Assigned to MST Automotive GmbH
  • Patent number: 5957003
Abstract: An armature for a motor-vehicle steering wheel. The hub, spokes, and rim are at least partly made out of a single sheet of metal. The metal is folded at the edge to produce a cross-section in the form of a U or L. The base of the section is essentially perpendicular to the axis of the steering wheel. The sides of the section essentially parallel that axis. The sides of the U or L are provided with an undulation as viewed longitudinally, that is almost non-existent in the vicinity of the base, and that increases continuously to a maximum as it approaches the edge.

  • Patent number: 5944340
Abstract: The invention concerns an airbag module for the passenger seat in a motor vehicle. The module is characterized by a cylindrical compressed-gas reservoir (1), a tube (2) that encloses the reservoir (1) and has gas-outlet openings (3) distributed along it, two lateral components (4) that are stamped out of sheetmetal and can be forced together along with the tube (2) by the compressed-gas reservoir (1), and an air sack (5) that is provided with a section enclosing the tube (2), that is secured to the tube (2) by means similar to tensioning straps, and that is folded over the tube (2).

  • Patent number: 5813707
Abstract: To accommodate a gas generator of an airbag for front-seat passenger protection in a motor vehicle, a trough-like housing is proposed which has a constant U-shaped cross section on its length, and flat sidewalls at its ends, which is characterized by two half shells of substantially mirror-image configuration made by casting in a mold with integrally attached side wall halves and by joining the two half shells. The manufacturing method to be applied according to the invention permits flexible adaption of the trough-like housing both to local space requirements and to functional requirements. The housing is especially light and can be made very inexpensively.

  • Patent number: 5810535
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for the releasable, positive fastening of the back wall of the housing of an airbag module to a supporting component of a motor vehicle body, wherein at least two fastening points are formed. For each fastening point, on the housing back wall or on the supporting component, a pin is provided and on the other of the supporting component or the housing back wall, an opening is provided. A resiliently biased catch mechanism is disposed in the area of the opening. The pin has on its shaft a detent and has a cone-shaped or wedge-shaped front portion. The catch mechanism is biased transversely of its longitudinal axis from a closed position to an open position from which it springs back into a catching position when the pin has reached the given fastening position in the opening.

  • Patent number: 5735542
Abstract: A housing for a passenger protection device in a motor vehicle having an airbag and a gas generator therein and a protective covering thereon to form a ready to install module. The housing comprises a body having an essentially U-shaped cross section which is uniform lengthwise along an axis. The housing also has two mainly flat end covers and tension members for simultaneously fastening the airbag and the protective covering to the housing.

  • Patent number: 5707075
Abstract: For the protection of the occupants of a vehicle in case of a lateral impact, restraints (3) are integrated in the side structure of the vehicle and are adapted to be automatically stretched to extend tautly on the inside across the window opening and are connected to an airbag unit (25) for protection in case of an impact, which unit is accommodated adjacent to the side structure of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5655789
Abstract: In a gas bag collision safety system for the steering wheel of street vehicles, the bowl-shaped steering wheel, into which a gas bag is folded, is fastened to the hub of the steering wheel, and the marginal area defining the gas inlet of the gas bag is joined gas-tight to the steering wheel hub. An improvement in installation accuracy is brought about by the fact that the gas inlet opening of the gas bag is made concentric with a through-bore made in the steering wheel hub and the gas generator is contained in the steering spindle.
