  • Patent number: 6600962
Abstract: A control system for controlling a variable of a device by an end element is disclosed. The control system has as its input a magnetostrictive position sensing probe for measuring the value of the variable of the device at time intervals and a digital controller reading the value from the magnetostrictive position sensing probe and having an output and means for calculating control output from the updated value of the variable during the time interval. The digital controller is close coupled to the magnetostrictive position sensing probe to permit time intervals that are very short, such as 500 microseconds to 1 millisecond.

  • Patent number: 6534967
Abstract: A dual totem (or H-bridge) power stage has four power devices, at least two of which are controlled by pulse width modulation (PWM) control signals to change current paths of the load current flowing through the driven load. A current sensor for measuring the load current includes a transformer having a secondary winding having a number N of turns, and a primary winding. The primary winding has four separate primary winding sections each coupled in series with a different one of the four power devices of the dual totem power stage. Different ones of the four primary winding sections have different numbers of turns such that different turns ratios result between the primary winding and the secondary winding for different current paths, thus generating a modulated signal on the secondary winding. The modulated signal is demodulated for accurate representation or reproduction of the current flowing through the load.

  • Patent number: 6369563
Abstract: A magnetostrictive linear position sensor produces a signal which is a time period. It is sometimes required to measure this time period and produce an output in another form which accurately represents the time period. The final output may be a voltage, current, frequency, digital or other signal format. A time period is commonly measured using a clock and a counter. The resolution is limited by the frequency of the clock. An upper limit for the clock frequency is usually set based on power consumption or other circuit constraint. A method and apparatus is disclosed for improving the resolution of a time interval using low power and for providing a response after one time period without averaging.
