  • Patent number: 8371571
Abstract: A method for inserting a supplement into a multipage printed product having a back and composed of signatures and/or individual sheets, and being transported with the back oriented parallel to a conveying direction. The multipage printed product is supplied with a signature or an individual sheet projecting from the multipage printed product to define a predetermined separating location between the projecting signature or individual sheet and an adjacent signature or sheet. The multipage printed product is opened at the predetermined separating location and then the opening is expanded. The supplement is thereafter inserted into the expanded separating location.

  • Patent number: 8371570
Abstract: In a device for trimming the top edge, bottom edge, and opening edge of a printed product, the printed product is transported through a cutting region of a connected cutting unit in a closed clamp of a synchronously driven conveying apparatus. The conveying apparatus is configured as a conveying rotor and the clamps are guided on a circulating path. The printed product is trimmed in the cutting region of the cutting unit which is arranged between a transfer station and a delivery station. In the cutting region, each clamp transitions from a circular control path section into an intermediate control path section in which the clamp is maintained substantially perpendicular relative to a tangent to a circular cutting path of the cutting unit during trimming of at least the top and bottom edges of the printed product.

  • Publication number: 20130026003
Abstract: A method for operating a collection system for printed products includes drawing off the printed products from discharge device(s) disposed at corresponding discharge point(s) in the collection system. The printed products are deposited on a collection section during a cycle period of the discharge device(s) so as to form a bundle of printed products. The bundle is transferred to a subsequent conveying mechanism having receiving pockets. It is determined whether at least one missing printed product exists due to an incorrect drawing off from the discharge point(s). A repair process is initiated and controlled in which the at least one missing printed product is drawn off from the corresponding discharge point(s) at a time corresponding to a subsequent recurrent pocket-related cycle of the subsequent conveying mechanism in a subsequent cycle period of the discharge device(s). The at least one missing printed product is inserted in the relevant receiving pocket.

  • Publication number: 20130016208
Abstract: A method and a device for the quality inspection and testing of a flat print product. A print product, including at least one structural element, is initially deposited on a support element and illuminated by at least one light source. At least one image of the illuminated print product is generated using at least one image recording unit. An image is also generated of at least one structural element on the support element and a geometric object of the support element is determined from the at least one structural element of the support element. Actual values for the at least one geometric object of the support element are compared to predetermined desired values for this geometric object and the result of the comparison is used for controlling the further processing of the print product.

  • Publication number: 20120326427
Abstract: A bundle of identical book blocks composed of a plurality of folded print sheets or signatures standing upright on lower edges of the printed sheets or book blocks. The book blocks are formed with first and last book block sections having different dimensions. A quadrangular bundle is formed from the book blocks by aligning first limit surfaces of the book block sections flush with each other along one of the two side surfaces or along the upper or lower surfaces of the bundle so that a second limit surface of the first book block section opposite the first limit surface of the first book block section projects with an offset with respect to a limit surface of the last book block section opposite the first limit surface of the last book block section. The bundle is compressed and then secured.

  • Patent number: 8336431
Abstract: A method for trimming multiple edges of a print product over the course of several processing steps of a processing cycle using a trimming apparatus is disclosed. The method includes the processing steps of feeding the print product from a stacking device to a trimming device using a feeding device, pressing the print product onto a trimming table using a pressing die, trimming the print product positioned on the trimming table using knives associated with the trimming device, releasing the pressing die from the trimming table, and removing the trimmed print product from the trimming table. The pressing die and the knives are driven by separate drives that are controlled by a control unit. The steps of feeding, pressing down, and releasing are time-variable, while the step of trimming includes a respectively time-constant knife movement for trimming the print product.

  • Patent number: 8317182
Abstract: A method is provided to control a paper-processing machine. Following an occurrence of at least one error, the error is automatically detected with at least one detection device. Following the detection of the error, a measure is automatically introduced to counteract the error. The measure is then canceled at least in part if the error no longer occurs or the machine is stopped completely if the error is still detected by the detection device following completion of a predetermined criterion.

  • Publication number: 20120280482
Abstract: A method for producing a bundle composed of book blocks includes gathering a plurality of printed sheets to form respective book blocks. The plurality of the book blocks are positioned with the same orientation and respectively positioned on lower edges of the printed sheets. Respectively two adjacent book blocks are offset from one another parallel to the lower edges of the printed sheets and transverse to a height of the bundle to be formed, such that a side edge of one of the two book block projects relative to a side edge of the adjacent book block. Thereafter the offset book blocks are combined to form the bundle and the bundle is compressed to fix the offset position of the book blocks.

  • Publication number: 20120250049
Abstract: A method, a device, and a computer readable medium may be provided for operating a print processing machine. The print processing machine may have a gross capacity (BP), a net capacity (NP), and/or a number (N) of devices in communication with the print processing machine. The net capacity (NP) may be computed as a function of the gross capacity (BP), the number (N) of devices, a stop rate (SR), a time interval for each stop (TN) and an error rate (FR) according to NP=[1?(BP·SR·N·TN)]·BP?(BP·FR·N). Limit values for errors contained in the stop rate (SR) and/or the error rate (FR) may be received. A maximum value may be determined for the net capacity (NP) by varying the gross capacity (BP) and/or the number (N) of devices without exceeding the limit values. The gross capacity (BP) of the print processing machine and the number (N) of devices may be adjusted to achieve the previously determined maximum value for the net capacity (NP).
