Abstract: Apparatus for cutting through a standing tree near the base by advancing a power driven blade transversely through the tree trunk. The blade has a leading edge along which a motor driven cutting element is journalled and the element is a shaft provided with helical flutes and wood chipping edges. A tree tilting mechanism on the apparatus is operable to keep the kerf open behind the advancing element and to fall the severed tree to one side of the path of travel of the apparatus.
