Abstract: A folder is adapted to fold sheets. A drum having a circumferential surface is adapted to withdraw sheets from a stack or from an overlapping flow and feed the sheets to the folder. A creasing apparatus is operatively arranged with the drum and includes: a first creasing wheel which cooperates with the drum to crease the withdrawn sheets that are fed to the folder, and a tracing wheel positioned at least axis parallel with the first creasing wheel and running on the circumferential surface of the drum to maintain a constant distance between the first creasing wheel and the circumferential surface of the drum.
Abstract: An arrangement for an optional forming of stacks of multiple products conveyed successively along a conveying path, and/or for changing the sequence of products conveyed successively along the conveying path. The arrangement includes a conveying device having conveying sections for transporting the products in a conveying direction. At least one up and down movable lifting element is disposed on at least one side of the conveying device and picks up the products from an underside of the products along the conveying path from the conveying device and subsequently deposits them again. The lifting element is disposed at a right angle to the conveying direction and is displaceable below a support surface of the conveying device.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling at least one of a position or at least one dimension of printed products conveyed while positioned flat in a conveyed flow. A conveying device transports the printed products and at least one sensor is directed toward an edge of the printed products and comprises a line sensor or area sensor. Abstract: A method for producing adhesive-bound book blocks from gathered signatures for which the individual signatures forming a non-bound book block are supplied while positioned on the spine on a transfer section to an opened conveying clamp on a perfect binder and are subsequently held while clamped in by the closed conveying clamp along the flat outer surfaces. The gathered signatures of a book block are released in an additional conveying section from the conveying clamp in order to be aligned while guided. Prior to leaving the conveying section for aligning the signatures, the signatures are clamped in once more by the conveying clamps along the flat outer surfaces, so that they can be conveyed to further processing locations.
Abstract: An arrangement for gathering and transporting print products, deposited straddling on a conveying device, includes a first conveying device including a first double chain having first and second strands and a second conveying device including a second double chain having first and second strands. A transfer region is provided in which the print products are transferred from the first conveying device to the second conveying device. The first and second double chains overlap in the transfer region such that the print products are transported in the transfer region with the aid of one strand on the first double chain and one strand on the second double chain.
Abstract: A device for gathering signatures, positioned straddling, into printed products such as newspapers, magazines, and brochures includes a conveying arrangement that has a saddle-shaped gathering section, and at least one signature feeders. The at least one signature feeder is arranged along the gathering section and are respectively controlled via a motor with the same or changeable angle of rotation and are driven cycle-synchronously with the conveying arrangement. For this, the signature feeders are connected detachably to a machine frame that accommodates the conveying arrangement.
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for pressing a casing or a slip-fold against an adhesive-covered back and adjacent side flanks of a book block, which is conveyed while clamped into a circulating clamp of a perfect binder with the book back projecting downward. The apparatus includes a back pressing device for pressing the casing against the adhesive-covered back and a flank pressing device for pressing the casing against the side flanks. These devices are driven synchronized with the timing of the book binder clamps for conveying the book blocks. At least the flank pressing device is assigned an individual drive unit which is connected to a control device of the perfect binder.
Abstract: A device for measuring the thickness of print products in a conveying flow includes a plate capacitor having a first plate and a second plate located on opposite sides of the print products. The plate capacitor is adapted to measure capacitance of the print products passing between the first plate and the second plate. A LC oscillator circuit is attached to the plate capacitor.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for transferring printed products conveyed in a shingled flow in a conveying direction by a conveyor to a transporter positioned above the conveyor. The shingled flow is conveyed with circulating clamps. Each printed product respectively projects with a leading end over a front end of a following printed product in the conveying direction and the circulating clamps respectively clamp the leading end of the printed products. Each printed product is lifted from below along one side of the shingled flow in a transfer region formed by the shingled flow and the above-positioned transporter. After the printed products are is lifted up, a trailing end of each printed product is gripped by a clamp of the transporter and then the printed products are further transported.
Abstract: A sheet feeder for supplying a conveying device with folded signatures from a stack of folded signatures, the sheet feeder including a gripper drum. The gripper drum includes at least one gripper to individually remove respective signatures and a stopping device. The stopping device including a stop element to stop and align the signatures with the fold of the signatures in a forward direction. The sheet feeder includes an opening device to open the individual signatures, to deposit the signatures on the conveying device, and to reverse the forward direction of the signatures. The sheet feeder includes a delay element moving in the same direction as the gripper drum and at a conveying speed less than the gripper drum speed. A press-on device to press the signatures released by the gripper against the delay element and to slow down the individual signatures prior to the signatures hitting the stop element.
Abstract: For attaching at least one flat supplementary product to a printed product, one leaf of the printed product is brought from a folded configuration into an essentially horizontal orientation. A supplementary product is attached, especially by an adhesive, to this horizontal leaf, preferably from above. Supplementary products can be attached to the front side and to the rear side of the printed product. The supplementary product is, for example, a commercial sample or a card.
Abstract: A device for transferring book blocks or books on a conveyance path for synchronized processing in a downstream machine includes a feeding device for the successive book blocks and a synchronizing device downstream of the feeding device. The synchronizing device has a conveyor belt that is connected with the feeding device in a way that allows conveyance. The book blocks are fed on the conveyor belt with lateral guidance to a drive device, which is drive-connected with the conveyor belt and acts to convey the book blocks.
Abstract: A method and arrangement is provided for producing an adhesive-bound printed item composed of a plurality of printed products. The printed products are gathered into loose book blocks along a first conveying section of a conveying track for a circulating conveyor while positioned transverse to a conveying direction and inclined counter to the conveying direction. The book blocks are then accelerated in an additional section of the circulating conveyor to obtain a larger divisional spacing between the printed products. The book blocks are transferred from the additional section of the circulating conveyor to clamps of a transporter and pivoted to an upright position where one side edge is approximately parallel to the conveying direction. The book blocks are transferred from the clamps of the transporter into respective circulating conveying clamps of an adhesive binder.

Abstract: A device for collecting printed products includes a rotating collecting cylinder to and a controllable holding device that holds and releases the printed products collected in a peripheral area of the collecting cylinder. A diverter includes an exposed end and a support roller. The diverter has an operational position to lift the products off the collecting cylinder and transfer them onto a conveying device, and a non-operational position for collecting the products on the collecting cylinder. A control unit moves the diverter from the non-operational position during an interval between two successive printed products and with the timing of the supplied printed products, to the operational position in which the diverter's exposed end is inserted in the surface area of the collecting cylinder. A circulating control member is drive-connected to the collecting cylinder and includes at least one control cam associated with the support roller in the non-operational and operational positions of the diverter.
Abstract: A method for producing bound books, magazines or brochures by gathering printed sheets into non-bound book blocks along a conveying section that is supplied by at least one sheet feeder includes separating the lowest printed sheet from a stack of printed sheets by lifting one edge region of the lowest printed sheet from the bottom of the printed sheet stack, withdrawing the separated lowest printed sheet with the aid of a conveying element from the remaining sheet stack by gripping the separated edge region with the conveying element, and subsequently withdrawing the separated lowest printed sheet in a direction parallel to the longitudinal extension of the edge region of the remaining sheet stack. The apparatus includes a separating device that lifts up the printed sheet at the stack front and a conveying element that pulls the printed sheet from the stack where both are arranged jointly on a removal unit.
