  • Patent number: 6912529
Abstract: A system for storing and retrieving text-based documents stores each of the documents in accordance with a mark-up language that comprises mark-up elements defined by a meta-language such as XML (Extensible Mark-up Language). In particular, each text document includes a plurality of text items, and each text item is associated in the text document with at least one of the mark-up elements. Each text document is stored at a central repository that is in communication with a plurality of user computers. A user can retrieve those documents that are of interest by formulating a search query that is transmitted from a user computer to the central repository. A search engine searches through the text items of each stored text document in order to determine which text documents satisfy the search query. Those text documents that satisfy the search condition are retrieved from the central repository and provided to the user computer for display.

  • Patent number: 6651219
Abstract: An automated text generation system may be used to generate financial reports based on financial data. The text generation system uses decisional statements in conjunction with a base equation, and the decisional statements are evaluated using the base equation to determine a resulting logic path. The logic path may then be used to specify appropriate text fragments reflecting analytic conditions. The text fragments may include variables to vary the text content of the report for aesthetic and analytic purposes, which are evaluated at run-time. A variety of analytic conditions may be represented in a flexible manner.

  • Patent number: 5802518
Abstract: The secure electronic distribution of research documents over the world wide web to investors who are authorized to receive said research documents. A repository server receives research documents from contributors. Also received are corresponding document profiles with information relating to each research document including authorization information specifying who is permitted to access each research document. The repository server includes a first database for structured query searches and a second database for full text searches. A web server is coupled to the repository server and coupled to the world wide web. The web server receives requests from investors for research documents that satisfy a query. The web server determines whether the first database or the second database should be searched based upon the type of query.
