Patents Assigned to Multi-Shot LLC
  • Publication number: 20180149297
Abstract: A gap sub assembly and methods for using the gap sub provide an electrical isolating joint that is mechanically strong enough to withstand the rigors of drilling environments, resistant to environmental effects (heat, corrosive liquids and gases, and high pressures), and maintainable. The gap sub assembly provides a male member and a female member that may be connected together, wherein a non-conductive material is applied between the two at the attachment points. A locking ring or collar affixes to both male and female members to prevent back off while drilling and preserving the electrical isolation of the gap joint. Non-conductive material may be injected between the locking ring and one or more of the male or female members.

  • Publication number: 20170159699
Abstract: A flex shaft for a motor may comprise a hollow tubular member with first and second connector ends. In some embodiments, a thickness or wall thickness of the tubular member may be selected in accordance with a desired strength or torque the flex shaft must be capable of handling. In some embodiments, a plurality of openings may be provided in the wall of the tubular member to provide a desired level of flexibility. The plurality of openings may be arranged or patterned in numerous ways discussed herein. The flex shaft allows a shorter overall length to be used than for a conventional solid shaft.

  • Patent number: 9459371
Abstract: This invention provides an improved system and method for receiving electromagnetic (EM) signals from a wellbore in spite of EM unfriendly formations by placing a cable antenna in a wellbore, drilling another wellbore nearby, and using the cable antenna downhole in the wellbore to assist in receiving signal from the transmitter in the wellbore being drilled. The EM telemetry system can include a bottom hole assembly with an EM tool for transmitting a signal positioned in a first wellbore; EM equipment provided at or near the surface; and a cable antenna coupled to the EM analyzer positioned in a second wellbore. The cable antenna does not require other downhole antenna devices for receiving EM signals and therefore is independent of other antenna devices. The cable antenna can be retrieved after drilling is completed and moved to another drilling site.

  • Publication number: 20110088952
Abstract: Enhancements to a drill motor include a bearing pack assembly, a balancing piston, a recording transducer package (RTP), and a latch rod assembly for a drill motor to improve performance and reliability of a drill motor. The bearing pack assembly includes a bearing housing coupled to an end cap and a drive shaft extending into the end cap and the bearing housing. The bearing pack assembly also includes a thrust bearing disposed within the bearing housing, wherein the thrust bearing separates the drive shaft and the bearing housing, and a bearing sleeve disposed within the bearing housing, wherein a radial bearing is placed between the bearing sleeve and the drive shaft. The balancing piston includes a first and second hydrodynamic seal. The recording transducer package is self powered and gathers data from a plurality of sensors in the downhole tool.

  • Publication number: 20110011594
Abstract: A mud pulser tool to be positioned into a downhole environment is disclosed. The mud pulser tool includes a control valve that is selectively opened to allow fluid to flow through the mud pulser tool or selectively closed to restrict the fluid flow, wherein the control valve is selectively opened or closed to produce a mud pulse signal transmitted through the fluid. The mud pulser tool also includes a sensor system to measure a pressure drop across the control valve. In one example, the mud pulser tool includes a control system to selectively open or close the control valve to adjust the pressure drop to produce a selected pressure drop across the control valve.
