    Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of and systems for predicting recurrence of atrial fibrillation comprising protease and protease inhibitor profiling. The levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and/or tissue inhibitor metalloproteinases (TIMPs) are analyzed to predict the recurrence of atrial fibrillation, and further to predict whether cardioversion will provide a successful therapy.
