  • Patent number: 5801962
Abstract: A method and apparatus for calibrating an image system is disclosed. The method according to the present invention includes inputting data by scanning a plurality of lines into a computer, and analyzing the input data for generating intensity of the scanned lines. The inputting step is repeated when the intensity is less than a low threshold value or the intensity is higher than a high threshold value. Next, any scanned line that includes at least a special point is filtered out. After averaging the corresponding points of the scanned lines not filtered out in order to generate a calibration line, a predetermined number of points of the calibration line are averaged to generate a reference point, wherein the predetermined number of points of the calibration line are brighter than other points of the calibrated line. Finally, the calibration data are obtained by taking ratio of the reference point to each of the points of the calibration line.

  • Patent number: 5786903
Abstract: The present invention discloses a multi-power control system for scanners. The method of the present invention has a mode of warm up time, which is controlled by a software that is embeded in a computer. Users can choose a mode of warm up time to control the warm up duration when a cathode ray tube needs. After scanning, users can determine whether the scanner is to operate or in standby status. When the user chooses the latter, the luminosity of the cathode ray tube is according to the user's pre-set. This multi-power control system not only can reduce the warm up time but also can be in harmony with the concept of enviromental protection.

  • Patent number: 5719404
Abstract: A method and apparatus is used on a flatbed scanner for calibrating the horizontal starting point of a document which is to be scanned by the flatbed scanner. The flatbed scanner is of the type having a light-sensing device as a CCD or CIS device consisting of a linear array of light-sensing cells and a movable scan head. In the method and apparatus, two reflective marks are fixed at a predetermined calibrating position to the front edge of the document. During the calibration process, the movable scan head is moved to the calibrating position where it senses the two reflective marks to thereby determine the distance in pixels between the first light-sensing cell on the linear array and the first reflective mark, and also the distance in pixel between the two reflective marks. The distance in pixel between the first reflective mark and the horizontal starting point of the document can then be determined.

  • Patent number: 5700005
Abstract: An apparatus for sheet feed-out control is provided on an automatic sheet feeder used in conjunction with scanners, fax machines, printers, copiers, and the like. The apparatus comprises a feed-in roller set for feeding the sheet into a scanning position where a scanning process is performed and a feed-out roller set for pulling the sheet away from the scanning position and delivering the sheet onto a receiving tray. A pivotal pressing member is pivotally affixed proximate to the feed-out rollers. The pivotal pressing member is pivotally turned by the sheet as the sheet is being fed out of the feed-out rollers. As the sheet is entirely fed out of the feed-out roller set, the pivotal pressing member presses down against the tail edge of the sheet, thus flipping the sheet off the feed-out roller set. Since the sheet can be placed flat on the receiving tray right after it is entirely fed out of the feed-out roller set, a stack of sheets after being scanned can be piled up neatly on the receiving tray.

  • Patent number: 5693937
Abstract: The invention discloses a compact scanner with an internal document tray which can be integrated with a computer and adapted to the location of the floppy diskette driver of the computer. The invention has a very simple structure driving device which allows a document I/O device to locate between illuminating device and photoelectric converting unit. When scanning, an illuminating unit provides light source for the reflective sheet placed on the internal document I/O device. The reflection is then guided to photoelectric converting unit to be converted into electric signals for the computer to read.
