  • Patent number: 6376835
Abstract: A scanner module with adjustable magnification ratio includes a photo-mechanical body, a charge-coupled device module and a pressing device, such as a wedge element or an adjusting screw. The photo-mechanical body is arranged along an optical distance and has a first plane vertical to the direction of the optical distance. The charge-coupled device module is arranged along the direction of the optical distance in the photo-mechanical body and has a second plane vertical to the optical distance and facing to the first plane. The pressing device is supported by the second plane and vertical to the first plane, for enabling the charge-coupled device module to move back and forth along the optical distance. Therefore, the magnification ratio of the scanner module can be adjusted through the length of the optical distance.

  • Patent number: 6377910
Abstract: An image-sensor emulating device establishing a link with a host system by using peripheral interface bus. The image-sensor emulating device emulates the functions of image-sensors by programmably generating the relevant image-sensor and timing signals. Alternatively, the timing signals can also be generated from the timing signals outputted by an outside image-sensor. Therefore, the emulating device can generate predetermined image-sensor signals and timing signals such that the debugging process is simplified and the developing efficiency is improved. Moreover, the emulating device according to the present invention can also generate a timing signal serving as a reference timing signal for emulating an image-sensor. The reference timing signal can be used to compare with the actual timing signals of an image-sensor.

  • Patent number: 6373983
Abstract: An automatic method detects missing lines occurred in an image, thereby identifying possible internal problems in the scanner. The method comprises the following steps. First, from the image of a slanting line, the pixel having gray levels closest to the median value of the predetermined highest gray levels and set a fault tolerance value are identified. Then the pixel as (Xi,Yj). Then, the gray levels of the pixels on (Xi,Yj) and (Xi−1,Yj+1) are compared. If the gray-level difference between these two pixels is larger than the fault tolerance value, the occurrence of a missing line is determined. To determine the total number of missing lines on that row, the gray levels to check if (Xi−2,Yj+1)≦(Xi,Yj)<(Xi−1,Yj+1) are compared. If not, the shift index k is incremented by one repeatedly until the gray-level difference is correspondent to the predetermined comparison condition.

  • Patent number: 6353486
Abstract: An image scanner having an improved scanning quality is disclosed. Two different color blocks having an interface therebetween are provided on the document platform of the image scanner. The image pickup device passes by the color blocks prior to the document area so that color calibrations and/or error detection can be performed before the scanning operation is performed. By this way, the color data such as the brightness of the obtained image can be compensated, and the deflection rate and/or the amplification error of the image pickup device can be corrected.

  • Patent number: 6339482
Abstract: The present invention provides a control method for moving and positioning multiple lens of a scanner to their accurate position. The method mainly uses a linear reference image, such as a calibration paper with some marks in the scanning range, taken by a specific lens to a CCD for verifying if the lens is well positioned according to a decision rule. The lens is controlled to move to its correct position by the continuous feedback signals from the CCD, so the accuracy and reliability of the positioning can be kept without being influenced from any worn-out of frequent movements of the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6295143
Abstract: The present invention discloses an apparatus and a method for detecting the scanning range when applying the assistant frames in the flatbed scanners. Fixed marks allocated at the front side of the assistant frames are used to determine the sizes of the assistant frames. The required scanning ranges are thus determined according to the recognized assistant frames obtained from pre-scan. Only the front sides but whole of the assistant frames need to be pre-scanned, and thus to reduce the scanning time interval.

  • Patent number: 6287203
Abstract: A method and structure for coupling to a step motor shaft is characterized by providing a predetermined back-lash distance defined between the step motor shaft and a key, thereby to instantly reach the desired speed for driving a load. Accordingly, a shaft coupling device is provided to connect to a rotatable load. The shaft coupling device has a key which maintains a back-lash distance defined between a step motor shaft and the key. Eventually, when the step motor shaft is not driving the load, they are separated. When the step motor shaft is driven by the step motor, it self-spins in a first direction and travels through a distance so as to form a predetermined back-lash distance between the key. As soon as the back-lash distance is formed, the step motor shaft reverses its rotation direction and then starts to travel through the predetermined back-lash distance to drive the load. The speed of the step motor shaft soon increases as it rotates in a second direction and approaches the load.

  • Patent number: 6282331
Abstract: An alignment pad is set in front of the image sensor. A lens is set between the alignment pad and the image sensor. The alignment pad includes a set of boundary alignment patterns. At least one sets of resolution analysis patterns are formed on the alignment pad. Each set of the resolution analysis pattern includes a horizontal analysis resolution pattern and a vertical resolution analysis pattern. The horizontal analysis resolution pattern is consisted of a plurality of vertical lines to analyze the horizontal resolution of the lens. The vertical resolution analysis pattern is consisted of a plurality of oblique lines to analyze the vertical resolution of the lens. The signals detected by the image sensor is fed to an application specific integrated circuits (ASIC) to generate a collation data. Subsequently, the collation data is fed into a buffer to store the data. A computer is responsive to these signal, and displays the collation data on the monitor in gray mode for collation.
