  • Patent number: 6556721
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for automatically cropping a scanned image having irregular boundaries. A pattern sheet is provided on the bottom surface side of the cover of the optical scanner. The pattern sheet is defined by multiple pattern units for serving as referential coordinates. When the scanner is initialized, the pattern sheet is pre-scanned to generate a pre-scanned image. The pre-scanned image of the pattern sheet will be analyzed to get the referential data, including the index, the referential intensity level, and the pixel-positions of each pattern unit. The referential data of each pattern unit will be stored in a database. When auto-cropping an area of interest (AOI) from a pre-scanned image, the pre-scanned image of the original will be logically divided into multiple document blocks according to the positions of the pattern units. Then, compare each document block with its correspondent pattern unit to determine if the document block contains AOI data.

  • Patent number: 6473527
Abstract: An interface module and method is disclosed for receiving the digital image data output of an analog/digital converter and transmitting the digital image data output to the JPEG compression device when the image data is determined to be compressed. The interface module comprises a read control device, an output control device and a memory device. The read control device reads a predetermined number of image lines from the data output of the analog/digital converter and stores these image data in a memory device. The memory device can save the same number of image lines as the memory device built in the JPEG compression device. After reading the predetermined number of image lines, the read control device will generate a control signal to the output control device for sequentially reading an image block from the memory device and sending each of the image block to the JPEG compression device.

  • Publication number: 20020145771
Abstract: The image reading device includes a scanning module and a light interference module. The user may use the light interference module to interfere the light path to trigger the scanning processes from a standby mode. When the light path is interfered, the image sensor would generate different image signal output. In this case, by detecting the difference of image signal output pattern, the image reading device would be triggered to load specific scanning control parameters to perform the scanning, such as starting the scanning programs and driving the scanning module to an initial position for completing the scanning.

  • Publication number: 20020145766
Abstract: The present invention relates to a full-auto scan control method and without central processing unit (CPU) of computer operation. There are two groups of register pre-reserved inside the system according to the original design. The control parameter can be installed before scan is operation. The system is able to read responded parameter when it inquires. Therefore there is no requirement of the CPU of computer control it when it is under scanning situation. The scan operation is controlled by pre-reserved control parameter data, which is installed into scanner via applied specific integrated circuit (ASIC) of scanner. And also it is recycled into the end of scan process. The best feature is no wasting time and without using computer according to the present invention.

  • Patent number: 6456742
Abstract: An image compression/decompression method is provided to improve the speed of data processing after the AD converter outputting the data scanned. The present invention defines a byte as having an attribute code and a counter. Each image data is processed according to the bit planes from high bit to low bit. Every data access to the output data of the A/D converter can read 63(26−1) bytes. The attribute code of each byte represents the type of the encoded codes, such as high/low bit or un-encoded data. The counter, on the other hand, would count the number of consecutive bits having the same value. The encoded image data will be output to a RAM for the host computer to access. For decompression, the host computer will access the RAM. The host computer only need to request the attribute of the data byte to know if the encoded data is high/low bit or un-encoded data.
