Such segments of interest include portions of the footage which were taken using a hand held camera and which show a static subject, portions which track the motion of a moving subject, and portions which show an abrupt event. Methods are presented for identifying such segments, based on motion and/or colour analysis of the video footage or based on observations of discontinuities in the video footage following a period of stability.

Abstract: A method (100) of automatically editing audio and visual recordings to produce an audio-visual production using computer processing means. The method (100) involves a first step (101) of setting production criteria in which the desired production duration, target device, maximum execution time and location of media files are specified. In a second step (102) a style is selected for applying to the media files. A third step (103) of selecting ones of the media files involves selecting those media files in folders which have been accessed most recently by a user, based on awarding a score to folders. In a fourth step (104), the selected style is applied. This is followed in a fifth step (105) by rendering the production to the target device.

Abstract: An editing system is proposed for automatically, or semi-automatically, editing input data to generate output production. The input material is annotated by, or analyzed to derive, a set of media descriptors which describe the input material and which are derived from the input material. The style of editing is controlled using style data which is optionally derived from a user. The input material may include any or more of motion video, still images, music, speech, sound effects, animated graphics and text. The style data and the descriptors are used to generate a set of operations which, when carried out on the input data, generate an edited output production.

Abstract: A method in which a pre-existing music video (which may be a professionally-created music video) is intercut with an end-user's own additional visual data (pictures or video). In a first phase, a plurality of temporal sections are defined in a pre-existing music video. In a second phase, which may be performed by a non-professional end-user, video data specified by the end-user are intercut with the pre-existing music video according to the temporal sections.

Abstract: A system for processing video segments is disclosed. The system includes a descriptor instantiator for creating a descriptor and ascribing at least one value thereto for a corresponding video segment. The system also includes a video constructor for assembling an output video production from at least two video segments, including means for selecting the at least two video segments according to values of at least one descriptor corresponding to the at least two video segments and means for sequencing the at least two video segments according to values of at least one descriptor corresponding to the at least two video segments.
