Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method of measuring a path over a 3-dimensional object using a handheld electronic device comprising an acceleration sensor. The method comprises using a processor for: obtaining acceleration measurements of the handheld electronic device while the handheld electronic device is traversed over the path in a first direction, thereby obtaining acceleration plots for 3 dimensions for the first direction; identifying the start and end point of the movement; and integrating between the start and end points of the movement to find the length.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method of measuring a path length using a handheld electronic device comprising an acceleration sensor. The method comprises: sensing an acceleration of the handheld electronic device while the handheld electronic device is translated over the path, thereby obtaining an acceleration plot of the handheld device; and calculating the path length from the acceleration plot using an integration procedure. In some cases projection of a distance over a required measured path is used.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for measuring a path length using a handheld electronic device comprising: repeatedly tumbling forward the handheld electronic device so as to cover the path to be measured; sensing a rotational change of the handheld electronic device; counting fractional increments of revolution of the handheld electronic device with respect to a starting position; and estimating the path length based on the counted fractional increments of revolution.
Abstract: A method of obtaining a user's measurement for matching an item, comprising obtaining a predefined definition of a first body part; displaying on a user's handheld device instructions for measuring, using the handheld device, the first body part according to the predefined definition; utilizing a sensor of the handheld device that is adapted to measure physical displacement of the handheld device to measure a total physical displacement of the handheld device's movement over the first body part, giving rise to a first measurement; and searching for an item having a specification that matches the first measurement.
