  • Patent number: 7228620
Abstract: A tape guide for guiding a carrier tape in a component mounting machine, a tape magazine for receiving the tape guide, and a system including the tape guide and the tape magazine. The carrier tape carries components that are positioned in sequence on the carrier tape and are covered by a cover tape. The tape guide includes an exposure mechanism for exposing the components at a picking position, wherein the exposure mechanism includes a separator for separating and lifting a lateral portion of the cover from the carrier tape, leaving the remaining portion of the cover at least partially attached to the carrier tape, and for bringing the lifted portion of the cover aside. The tape guide also includes a lock for enabling ready and quick attachment and detachment of the tape guide to and from the component mounting machine, a guiding for guiding the carrier tape towards a picking position, and a retainer for preventing accidental displacement of the carrier tape along the tape guide.

  • Patent number: 7201802
Abstract: Solder paste application, inspection and correction. Following or during application of solder paste on a substrate, the result thereof is inspected and any detected errors are registered. Following an evaluation as to whether correction of these errors is required and if it would be worthwhile, the errors are corrected. The correction involves removing solder paste from locations where so required, and jetting of additional solder paste to locations where so required.

  • Patent number: 7096571
Abstract: A method of transferring component tape information to a component mounting machine, a tape guide for guiding a component tape in a component mounting machine, and a tape magazine for receiving the tape guide. The tape guide is arranged for quick and ready attachment and detachment into and from the component mounting machine. The loading and/or unloading of a component tape into and from the tape guide can be performed away from the component mounting machine. The ability to be releasably mounted is achieved by providing the tape guide with a lock that enables ready and quick attachment and detachment to an interacting lock in a component mounting machine, or in a tape magazine arranged for insertion into a component mounting machine, and a guide for guiding the component tape. The tape guide further includes an identifier for holding the identity of the tape guide, which can be associated with information relating to the component tape.

  • Patent number: 7011382
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of improving the performance of a jetting assembly in an apparatus for jetting droplets of viscous medium on the fly onto a substrate. The jetting assembly is releasably mounted in the apparatus and includes a nozzle, an ejection mechanism connected to the nozzle, and a viscous medium container connect to the eject mechanism. Information relating to an XY-position and a Z-position is obtained together with information regarding the exit velocity a droplet of viscous medium has when it exits the nozzle. The information is used as a basis for adjusting a trigger position of the nozzle for the subsequent jetting of droplets. The invention also concerns such a jetting assembly including storage device arranged to receive and hold calibration information of properties of the assembly obtained during calibration measurements.

  • Patent number: 6948541
Abstract: System for handling components in connection with circuit board assembly in a component mounting machine. The system comprises a number of component tapes provided on component tape reels, and a number of tape guides arranged for receiving component tapes of a given component tape width and for bringing the component tape in position for feeding of the component tape and for picking components from the component tape in the component mounting machine. The tape guides have a similar geometrical outline and basic configuration, and each tape guide comprises a component exposure device for exposing a component at a picking position by removing the portion of the cover tape covering the component. The tape guides are divided into sub-sets of tape guides, wherein the tape guides of each individual sub-set have component exposure devices of the same design, which design is dependent on the configurations of the component tapes intended for that sub-set of tape guides.

  • Patent number: 6869040
Abstract: A method, a system and an arrangement for handling component tapes in connection with mounting components onto circuit boards in a component mounting machine are disclosed, which utilizes a carrier for carrying component tapes. Each component tape is held by a component tape reel. The component mounting machine utilizes component magazines from which components, carried by the component tape, are supplied for use in a mounting process of the component mounting machine. The component tape of each component tape reel is loaded into a tape guide for guiding the component tape in the component mounting machine, and the component tape reels are arranged in the carrier, which thereaft is placed in the magazine. The tape guides are then mounted in the magazine such that the component tape loaded therein may interact with feeding devices provided in the magazine. Thereby, the magazine is loaded with components and prepared for the ensuing mounting process.

  • Patent number: 6508196
Abstract: In a device for ejecting small amounts of a liquid material having accurately defined volumes from a chamber (1), the chamber has a nozzle aperture (7) and a rod (9) is mounted in or attached to a wall of the chamber (1), so that an end surface (11) of the rod is located opposite and at a small distance of the nozzle aperture (7). A driving device is coupled to the rod (9) for displacing the end surface (11) forwards and backwards inside the chamber with a very small stroke, with a high acceleration and a large force, so that a pressure wave is formed and propagates in the material in the chamber (1). The pressure wave then ejects material out of the nozzle aperture (7).

  • Patent number: 6450416
Abstract: The present invention refers to a method and a device for jetting droplets of a viscous medium onto an electronic circuit board. According to the invention, the viscous medium is applied from a viscous medium supply container to an eject chamber through a tubular passage using a rotatable feed screw arranged within the tubular passage. The viscous medium is then jetted from the eject chamber through an eject nozzle by the rapid decreasing of the volume of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6397456
Abstract: On a carriage (43) which is movable in a horizontal direction (X-direction) in an automatic component mounting machine a slide (41) is arranged which is movable vertically (in the Z-direction). The slide (41) carries a plurality of pick-up devices or pipettes (49), which by means of arms (47) are movably mounted in XY-tables attached to the slide. The XY-tables allow that the arms (47) and thus the pipettes can move, during the different movements of the carriage (43) and the slide (41), to different positions which are accurately controllable. Tee carriage can thus fetch components (51) and then have the pipettes (49) in some positions in relation to each other and then, during the displacement of the carriage to the position above a printed circuit board, the pipettes are allowed to be displaced to other positions in relation to each other, which are adapted to the intended places of the components on the printed circuit board.
