Abstract: An RF/MR transmit and/or receive antenna is disclosed for use in a hybrid magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system (or MR scanner), which comprises an MRI system and another imaging system for example in the form of a high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) system. The RF transmit and/or receive antenna (40, 50) is provided with respect to its conductor structure such that it does not disturb or in any other way detrimentally influence the related other (i.e. HIFU) of the two systems, especially if both systems are operated simultaneously and if the RF antenna is positioned in close proximity to an object to be imaged.

Abstract: The invention relates to an imaging apparatus (1) for imaging an interior of an object (2). The imaging apparatus (1) comprises a first ultrasound sensor and a second ultrasound sensor for sensing the interior of the object at different frequencies, wherein the ultrasound sensing signals from the first ultrasound sensor are used for generating a first ultrasound image and a the ultrasound sensing signals from the second ultrasound sensor are used for generating a second ultrasound image. A larger frequency generally provides a smaller depth of penetrating the interior of the object and a larger spatial resolution than a smaller frequency. The imaging apparatus (1) can therefore provide the capability of simultaneously imaging the interior of the object with different spatial resolutions and at different penetration depths. This allows the imaging apparatus to improve the quality of imaging the interior of the object.

Abstract: A hybrid deposition process of CVD and ALD, called NanoLayer Deposition (NLD) is provided. The NLD process is a cyclic sequential deposition process, including introducing a first plurality of precursors to deposit a thin film and introducing a second plurality of precursors to modify the deposited thin film. The deposition using the first set of precursors is not self limiting and is a function of substrate temperature and process time. The second set of precursors modifies the already deposited film characteristics. The second set of precursors can treat the deposited film, including treatments such as modification of film composition and doping or removal of impurities from the deposited film. The second set of precursors can also deposit another layer on the deposited film. The additional layer can react with the existing layer to form a compound layer, or can have minimum reaction to form a nanolaminate film.

Abstract: A magnetic resonance elastography method includes application of mechanical oscillations with an oscillation period (T) to an object to be examined to generate mechanical waves in the object. A motion sensitive magnetic resonance acquisition sequence with repetition time TR issued to acquire magnetic resonance signals from the object. This acquisition sequence including application of one or more phase encoding steps within an individual repetition time. The repetition time times the number of phase encodings within one repetition time is not equal to an integer multiple of the oscillation period. Thus a magnetic resonance image of the wave pattern is reconstructed from the magnetic resonance signals assembled in a sample space spanned by the phase of the mechanical oscillation and the phase encoding.

  • Publication number: 20120289852
Abstract: The acoustic impedance of the respiratory system can be inferred from oscillations that are generated in an airway of a subject. The impedance describes the frequency-dependent relation between the resulting oscillations in flow and pressure. When the impedance varies from inspiration to expiration, it has to be estimated with a high time resolution. A method is provided that reliably estimates the impedance in time intervals that are short enough for physiological purposes. A simple version of the uncertainty principle has been derived for discrete time and frequency. A discrete time-frequency transform has been developed that gives an optimal time-frequency resolution according to this principle. The transform is orthonormal, which permits an analysis of variance in the discrete time-frequency domain. The impedance follows from bivariate least-squares analysis in the time-frequency domain, under the assumption that noise is present in both flow and pressure.
