Patent number: 6933723Abstract: A coil system (210) for an apparatus operating in conformity with the spin resonance or magnetic resonance (MR) method encloses an examination space (217) which extends along an axis (218) and is intended to receive a patient (215). It includes an inner RF coil (219), an inner sub-coil (213?) which externally encloses the RF coil (219) and projects beyond the RF coil (219) in the axial direction at both sides, and an active shield (212) which externally encloses the inner sub-coil (213?) and constitutes a gradient coil arrangement in conjunction with the inner sub-coil (213?). For specified gradients, the energy required for the gradient coil arrangement (213?, 212) in such a coil system is reduced in that the volume occupied by the inner sub-coil (213?) is extended in the axial direction by way of regions extending beyond the RF coil (219) in the direction of the axis (218).Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2003Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: Volkmar Schulz, Bernhard Gleich, Jürgen Weizenecker

Patent number: 6934038Abstract: The present invention is directed at a coherence test reticle or lithographic plate, and a method for testing the coherence of a laser beam using the test reticle. The quality or coherence of the laser beam is measured by illuminating the test reticle and the recording and/or analyzing the optical patterns generated by the illumination. The technique was designed for, but not limited to, the characterization of laser-based systems via the detection of optical radiation modulated by transmissive, reflective and diffractive patterns printed on a reticle or lithographic plate designed specifically for this purpose. The novelty and advantages over the prior art are insensitivity to vibration, alignment, and multi-path differences of classical interferometric coherence measurement techniques. Spatial coherence and longitudinal or temporal coherence may be measured independently. Vertical and horizontal coherence may be measured independently. The technique is focus error insensitive.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2001Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: ASML Holding N.V.Inventor: Matthew E. Hansen

Patent number: 6933685Abstract: A lighting controller is disclosed that automatically adjusts a lighting device based on user activity. The disclosed lighting controller processes at least one of audio and video information to identify predefined user events that suggest that a lighting device should be activated or adjusted. In one implementation, a number of behavior rules define various user activities or events that suggest that the user would like to activate or adjust a lighting device. Each rule contains one or more conditions, and, optionally, a corresponding action-item that should be performed when the rule is satisfied to activate or adjust the lighting device. Upon detection of a predefined event, the corresponding action, if any, is performed by the lighting controller.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2004Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: Srinivas Gutta, Antonio J. Patent number: 6933559Abstract: In high-voltage devices comprising a lightly doped region (3) provided with a heavily doped contact zone 4, damage caused by local breakdown at the corner of the contact zone may occur as a result of the Kirk effect at a high current density. To improve the robustness of the device, an annular protection zone (14) of the same conductivity type is provided so as to surround the contact zone at a small distance. As a result, breakdown will occur initially at the corner of the protection zone. However, due to the resistance between the protection zone and the contact zone, a more uniform current distribution is obtained, which prevents damage caused by local current concentration.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2000Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: Raymond Van Roijen, Johannes Hendrik Hermanus Alexius Egbers, Adrianus Willem Ludikhuize, Anco Heringa

Patent number: 6933432Abstract: A sequential playback system is configured to select each sequential song based upon characteristics of an ending segment of each preceding song. Songs are selected based on the characteristics of the overall theme of the selection, if any, and also based on a musical correspondence between songs. The correspondence may be based on the rhythm of each song, the notes and chords of each song, and other musical characteristics of the songs. The end segment of each selected song is characterized, and the first segment of a candidate song that satisfy the overall selection criteria is compared to this characterization to determine a correspondence. If the first segment of the candidate song is inconsistent with the end segment of the previously selected song, another candidate song is found that satisfies the overall selection criteria, and the first segment of this new candidate song is compared to the characterization.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2002Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: Eugene Shteyn, Willem Bulthuis

Patent number: 6934851Abstract: A copy protection system for protecting content wherein a ticket and a watermark are created, utilizing a first time reference (TD) and a one-way function, to indicate the copy protection status of the content. A source device produces the ticket and watermark using a first time reference and a hashing function. The source device provides a data stream containing the content, the ticket, the watermark, and the first time reference (TD) to the receiver device. The receiver device determines if the first time reference (TD) is contained within a time window determined by a second time reference. When, the first time reference (TD) is contained within the time window, the receiver compares the ticket to the watermark using the first time reference (TD) and the one-way function, and based on the comparison, produces a signal indicating the copy protection status of the content.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2002Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventor: Michael A. Patent number: 6934678Abstract: In a mobile wireless communication system automatic speech recognition is performed in a distributed manner using a mobile station based near or front end stage which extracts and vector quantizes recognition feature parameters from frames of an utterance and an infrastructure based back or far end stage which reverses the vector quantization to recover the feature parameters and subjects the feature parameters to a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) evaluation to obtain a recognition decision for the utterance. In order to conserve network capacity, the size (Sz) of the codebook used for the vector quantization, and the corresponding number of bits (B) per codebook index B, are adapted on a dialogue-by dialogue basis in relation to the vocabulary size |V| for the dialogue. The adaptation is performed at the front end, accomplishes a tradeoff between expected recognition rate RR and expected bitrate BR by optimizing a metric which is a function of both.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2000Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventor: Yin-Pin Yang
