  • Patent number: 4355772
Abstract: The invention relates to a rapid acting automatic belt arresting means. A housing (10) for a vehicle inertia sensor is integral with a control part (3) which is mounted pivotably on belt shaft (1). When pawl (11) is moved, either by the inertia sensor or a belt sensitive mechanism (18, 21), to engage a locking gear (5) connected to shaft (1), further rotation of the shaft (1) pivots control part (3) which thereby moves a locking pawl (6) into locking engagement with locking gear (5) preventing further belt withdrawal.

  • Patent number: 4310952
Abstract: A safety belt buckle including a latch for engagement with an opening in a tongue, an ejection spring for the tongue and a bias spring for a push button that can be brought into engagement with the latch, wherein the latch can pivot on an axis approximately perpendicular to the direction of insertion of the tongue, the latch being biased in the unlocked position by the force of the bias spring, and when the bias spring is at least partially extended, the latch is maintained in locking engagement with the tongue by a reinforcing member that moves together with the push button.

  • Patent number: 4244537
Abstract: A vehicle sensitive seat belt retractor including two locking pawls acting on a single ratchet wheel and operable in response to actuation of a vehicle sensitive sensor. The pawls are positioned relative to the sensor so that the force required to lock the retractor is uniform regardless of the direction of the acceleration. Preferably, the support for the sensor includes two mutually adjustable parts, one of which carries a ring which supports the sensor, which is preferably a ball, and the other is connected to the retractor housing.

  • Patent number: 4216922
Abstract: In a device for reducing spring tension in a belt strap, particularly in a belt retractor for safety belts in motor vehicles, comprising a winding shaft and a return spring secured in a housing, the device including means for producing a force acting against the tension of the spring, the means being couplable with the winding shaft through a coupling means, the improvement comprising a spring housing mounted so as to be freely rotatable on the shaft, a pivot bearing of a wheel rotatably disposed on the spring housing, the wheel being in driving arrangement through the coupling means with the winding shaft and with the retractor housing, and a release member operable for releasing the coupling means.

  • Patent number: 4185792
Abstract: This invention relates to a locking device for a safety belt retractor comprising a reel shaft and a ratchet wheel provided with locking teeth and engageable with pawls, characterized by the fact that a synchronization disk (5) bearing actuating parts (16) engageable with a pawl (13) and provided with at least a first disengagement device (9), and an axially undisplaceable ratchet wheel (4) with at least a complementary second disengagement device (8) are disposed on said reel shaft (1), that when the synchronization disk (5) and the ratchet wheel (4) rotate relative to each other, at least a part of the synchronization disk (5) is deformed or displaced to actuate locking by the pawl (13) and that actuation chronologically precedes locking.

  • Patent number: 4101092
Abstract: A seat belt retractor of the inertia type comprises a rotatable shaft with a cam-surface driven thereby. A locking element movable on the cam surface is positively displaced by a control element fitted in a recess thereof and acting from an inertia element. The locking element, when driven by the inertia member, engages with the teeth on an annular locking ring to stop retraction of the seat belt attached to the shaft. The inertia element may be spring preloaded and a locking wheel may be provided to provide alternative locking torque for the inertia element when the car assumes a roll-over condition in which the seat belt would not ordinarily retract quickly.
