Abstract: A device for separating liquids and/or solids from a high-pressure gas stream having a cylindrical vessel fitted with a top compartment into which the gas stream is fed, a middle compartment having a number of blades set helicoidally around the axis of the vessel, and a bottom compartment for separating the gas and the liquid and/or solids. A coaxial gas discharge pipe projects upwardly from the bottom compartment through the middle and top compartments, around which helicoidal blades have been fixed, each helicoidal blade being composed of a bottom section with a constant pitch and a section with a gradually increasing pitch. Vertical baffles are fitted between the helicoidal blades which, viewed in the flow direction of the gas, extend from the discharge pipe in the direction of the inner wall of the vessel. Conical sleeve sections are provided in the separation section of the device, at the outer wall of the gas discharge pipe.

  • Patent number: 5129931
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for the improved separation of liquids and/or solids from a gas stream which includes a cylindrical vessel in which the gas stream is rotated by helicoidal blades for separating the liquid and/or solids from the gas stream. The separated gas is discharged through an upwardly projecting pipe. At least one plate is provided under the gas discharge pipe and at least one diametrical baffle is provided beneath the bottom plate to stop the rotation of the separated liquids and/or solids.

  • Patent number: 4481474
Abstract: A measuring device for measuring the potential, relative to the earth, of a metallic structure buried in the earth, and cathodically protected by an externally applied DC voltage. The measuring device includes the combination of a metallic, rod-shaped probe adapted to be driven into the earth, a major portion of which is coated with an electrically insulating material. A small portion of the probe near the bottom end thereof is left uncoated and constitutes a measuring electrode. A reference electrode is situated in a transverse bore near the bottom end of the probe, and is electrically insulated therefrom. The probe is adapted to be electrically connected to the metallic structure, for measurement of and the potential difference between the measuring and reference electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4401946
Abstract: Piston position detector for generating an electrical signal varying linearly with piston travel of a piston machine. The device comprises a metal cylinder rotating about an eccentric axis synchronously with the crankshaft of the piston machine, the ratio of eccentricity to cylinder radius being substantially equal to the ratio of crank length to connecting rod length of the piston machine. The cylinder surface is faced by the probe of an eddy-current distance meter, the arrangement being such that the desired linear relation is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4394959
Abstract: An improved multimode heat-pump type heating system designed to heat a plurality of rooms efficiently under a variety of ambient temperature conditions. When in its first mode the heat pump system employs an operating fluid, such as ammonia, and an absorbing liquid, such as water. The ammonia is initially evaporated in a cold heat source so as to absorb or extract heat therefrom. It is then absorbed by the absorbing liquid and both transported to a boiler where the two are again separated. The absorbing liquid returns to the absorbing area while the operating fluid flows to a condenser and condensed after which it is returned directly to the evaporator. A plurality of heat exchangers are used to transfer heat from the operating fluid, the absorbing liquid or the system to a room heating fluid. In the second mode, the evaporator and absorbing portions of the system are bypassed and only the operating fluid circulates from the condenser to the boiler past heat exchangers in order to heat the operating fluid.

  • Patent number: 4024449
Abstract: Converter circuit, in which a 50 or 60 cps a.c. voltage is converted into a d.c. voltage, the latter into an a.c. voltage of a higher frequency, e.g. 20-80 kilocycles, which is converted by way of one transformer into one or several separate d.c. voltages. The transformer comprises a divisible ferrite core; the primary winding and one or several secondary windings are placed on opposite core parts. Each secondary winding, together with a pertaining rectifying-, smoothing- and stabilizing -circuit and a limiting resistor is installed as an intrinsically safe power source on one print. Several prints of this kind may be placed on the secondary core part, one for each power source required. The electrical values of the circuit components are subject to certain specifications.

Abstract: A down-draught deflector - draught interrupter is described having a tube of circular or rectangular cross-section, an internal baffle element for laterally deflecting down-draught gases and peripheral escape openings for such gases. The tube has a substantially constant diameter and is provided in one end portion (upstream end portion) with an annular combustion gas deflector for deflecting combustion gases towards the tube axis and defines a gas flow path which at the position of its smallest cross-section has a diameter of 0.3-0.9 times the internal diameter of the tube. The baffle element occupies within the tube a position wholly or mainly downstream with respect to said position of smallest flow-path cross-section and has a dimension in a plane normal to the tube axis of 0.2-0.9 times the internal diameter of the tube. The apertures in the tube wall are located so as to be at least in part opposite the baffle element.

  • Patent number: 3950136
Abstract: Method and apparatus for determination of the average composition of a gas under pressure over a certain period of time by regularly taking gas samples, which are stored in a collecting vessel. The gas is periodically led for a short, each time identical, length of time to the collecting vessel via a line in which a part is so dimensioned that, at a supercritical pressure ratio, a gas velocity occurs in it equal to the velocity of sound in the gas. In this way, all samples contain the same quantity of gas and a truly average sample is collected in the collecting vessel, as long as the pressure in the collecting vessel is less than about half the pressure upstream of said part.
