Abstract: A strip for winding around and gripping an elongate object, e.g. a cable, each end of the strip including a connection part which may interlock with a respective connection part of another, substantially identical strip, thereby enabling a plurality of such strips to be connected together substantially end-to-end to form a longer strip for winding around and gripping an elongate object.

Abstract: A cable closure is provided with at least two housing parts which, in use, are brought together, and when brought together provide a cavity for containing sealing material, through which one or more cables may extend into the closure. The cable closure also includes a sealing material which is contained in the cavity upon bringing the housing parts together, and, which seals between the cable (s) and the housing part(s); and at least one resilient member which, in use, is contained in the cavity. When the housing parts are brought together, in use, the resilient member is compressed, and thus causes the resilient member, by its resilience, to apply a compressive force to the sealing material.

Abstract: A seal for sealing an aperture in an object, through which aperture one or more elongate article(s) extend(s). The seal includes at least two pressure members; at least two seal members to seal the aperture, at least part of at least one of which is situated, in use, between the at least two pressure members; and a compression device to compress the seal members in use by moving the pressure members closer together. The seal is arranged such that each elongate article extends in between at least two seal members, the seal members being situated adjacent to each other in a lateral direction with respect to the direction in which the elongate article(s) extend(s), and being arranged to form a sealing contact with each other and with each elongate article when they are compressed by the compression device.

Abstract: A cable seal insert for sealing a cable entry in a closure, including:(a) at least two plates, each of which, at least in use, has extending therethrough at least one aperture for a cable; and(b) sealing material located between the plates;wherein a peripheral surface of the seal insert which is substantially parallel to the or each cable aperture is substantially planar, and at least one of the plates is formed from non-elastomeric material.

Abstract: A sealing member is provided which can be spirally wrapped around an elongate article (e.g., a cable) comprises a strip of sealing material (e.g., gel sealing material), and at least one series of gripping elements situated adjacent to the strip of sealing material and extending beside a longitudinal edge of the sealing material. In use, the gripping elements cause the sealing member to grip an elongate article around which it is spirally wrapped. The sealing member may also include a support strip to which the strip of sealing material and each series of gripping elements are attached.

Abstract: A seal for sealing between a cable and a casing enclosing part of the cable includes a wall member having a plurality of substantially concentric removable portions which may selectively removed to provide a cable aperture of required diameter through the wall member. The seal also includes sealing material retained by the wall member, which seals, in use, around a cable extending through the cable aperture in the wall member. When a removable portion of the wall member is removed, a corresponding portion of the sealing material is also removed, thereby providing a cable aperture of the required diameter through the sealing material.

Abstract: A retention strip for winding around an elongate object is disclosed. When the strip is wound in use it can decrease in length when compressed around the object, thereby contracting around the object. The strip preferably includes one or more, preferably a plurality of, collapsible portions, and the strip can decrease in length due to the collapsing of one or more of the collapsible portions.

Abstract: A casing, e.g. for a cable splice closure, includes: (a) first and second parts, each of which has a peripheral flange, and (b) a clamping member in the form of a split ring which, in use, is placed around the flanges of the first and second parts and thereby clamps the parts together, at least part of the clamping member being formed as a single flexible piece which may be flexed open to allow the clamping member to be placed around the flanges of the first and second parts.

Abstract: Two-component curable adhesive for blocking automotive wiring bundles, the respective components preferably amine-terminated polyamide Part A, and acrylate, anhydride or epoxy Part B, being contained in separate sheets which are inter-leaved with one another. The concentration of the reactive components in the sheets is chosen to cause the adhesive to flow on initial heating and then to cure to resist further flow at elevated temperatures in service. Apparatus, kits and method for blocking cables or wire bundles using the adhesive are also claimed.

Abstract: An elongate electrode, usually an anode, is provided, suitable for use in an impressed current corrosion protection system. The electrode comprises a central elongate core, usually a metal such as copper, an optional conductive polymeric composition surrounding the metal core and having a higher electrical resistivity than the core, but being in electrical contact with the core, a flexible jacket, for example, a fabric braid containing within it particulate coke, and tensioning wraps positioned around the flexible jacket. The purpose of the tensioning wraps is to compact the coke particles relative to their compaction in the absence of the tensioning wraps.

Abstract: A device for forming a seal around an elongate member, such as a wire, is provided. A device includes a first housing part and a second housing part movably connected to the first part. Sealing material such as a gel is positioned in the first housing part and provides a surface onto which the elongate member may be placed. A first member is positioned in the second housing part so as to displace the elongate member substantially laterally into the sealing material on movement of the second housing part relative to the first housing part. A device for applying a force to the sealing material on relative movement of the housing parts is also provided.

Abstract: An optical fiber organizer which has at one face thereof:an inlet port and an outlet port through which fibers can pass substantially in the plane of that face;a through port that extends through that face to an opposite face of the organizer; andfiber storage means positioned with respect to the ports such that a fiber passing between the inlet and through ports or between the outlet and through ports is constrained by an outer surface of the storage means to a minimum bend radius at least equal to the critical bend radius of the fiber.

Abstract: A device for environmental protection of an electrical component on a mount, e.g. a circuit board, includes: a first housing part; a second housing part which together with the first housing part provides a substantially closed housing; a mount (e.g. a circuit board) for an electrical component that may be movably secured with respect to the first housing part; and a sealing material positioned between the mount and a surface of the first housing part; such that the mount can be moved with respect to the first housing part to put the sealing material under compression. The device can also include a maintenance termination unit for a telecommunications network.

Abstract: A flexible hollow sealing member that can be inflated to seal a gap between first and second articles and that has: a hole directly through a wall or between walls thereof through which hole a probe can be inserted to introduce pressurizing medium into the member, and by which the hole is automatically sealed on withdrawal of the probe.

Abstract: A cable splice closure is disclosed, which includes a casing which, in use, is closed around a cable splice; and at least one cable gripper comprising a strip which, in use, is wound around at least one cable extending into the casing. Closing the casing, in use, automatically causes the or each strip to tighten around the or each cable around which it is wound, thereby gripping the cable. The cable gripper strip may have the ability to decrease in length when wound and compressed around a cable, thereby allowing it to contract, and therefore tighten, around the cable.

Abstract: An environmentally sealed cable splice includes (a) a butt cable splice between at least two substantially side-by-side cables, (b) an enclosure sealed around said cables, the enclosure including (i) a first part through which the cable extends, and (ii) a second part which is hollow and together with the first part forms a closed space, the first and second parts having internal and external cross-sections such that one can be slid upon the other so as to give an overlap between the first and second parts, and (c) an inflated sealing member carrying sealing material, the sealing member being within the enclosure and in contact with the cables and the overlap.

Abstract: A device for forming a seal around an elongate object having: (a) a sealing plate having a hole through which the object can pass, and containing a chamber in communication with the hole; (b) a pressure plate positioned within and movable relative to the chamber; and (c) a sealing material positioned within the chamber such that when the elongate object passes, in use, through the hole in the sealing plate, the sealing material is positioned between the pressure plate and the elongate object, wherein the pressure plate can be moved, in use, towards the object in a direction transversely of the object, to urge the sealing material into sealing contact with the object.
