Patent number: 11168521Abstract: A harmonic gear drive includes an input shaft and an output shaft. The input shaft is mechanically coupled to a wave generator which has a varying diameter. The wave generator is positioned within a flex spline which includes external teeth. The external teeth of the flex spline engage with internal teeth of a fixed spline and an output spline when the major diameter of the wave generator is aligned therewith. The output spline has a different number of teeth from the input spline such that, as the wave generator is rotated and the flex spline rotates, the output spline is rotated relative to the fixed spline.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2019Date of Patent: November 9, 2021Assignee: NABORS LUX 2 SARLInventors: Siamak Shahipassand, Andrew Gorrara, Ola Stengel

Patent number: 10774601Abstract: A pipe gripping device includes a gripper arm arrangement having first and second gripper arms and having an open state which enables the pipe to be introduced into an opening between the arms, and an engaged state in which the gripper arms are adapted to engage with the pipe. First and second drive arms movably connect the respective first gripper arm and the second gripper arm to a support structure. Pivots rotationally connect the drive arms to the support structure. The device further comprises a transmission drive shaft and a transmission arrangement having first, second and third transmission members, each rotatable in respect to each other and coupled with each other. The first member is coupled with the drive shaft, the second member is coupled to the first member and the first drive arm, and the third member is coupled with the second member and the second drive arm.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2017Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: NABORS LUX 2 SARLInventor: Svein Søyland

Patent number: 10760341Abstract: A method of drilling a wellbore is described using a BHA including an RSS that comprises an adjustment mechanism movable between first and second configurations to alter a drilling direction of the BHA, BHA sensor(s), and a controller. The method includes drilling, using the BHA, the wellbore with the adjustment mechanism in the first configuration; receiving, by the first controller, real-time data including inclination and azimuth angle data from the BHA sensor(s); determining, by the first controller and based on the real-time data, a relationship between an actual measurement and a target measurement that is associated with a target well path; automatically moving, by the first controller and in response to the determination of the relationship, the adjustment mechanism from the first to the second configuration; and drilling, using the BHA, the wellbore while the adjustment mechanism is in the second configuration.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2018Date of Patent: September 1, 2020Assignee: NABORS LUX 2 SARLInventors: Andrew Gorrara, Ola Stengel, Knut-arve Johnsen

Patent number: 10472955Abstract: A method of surveying a wellbore continuously during drilling. The method includes using a drill string with a non-rotating sub-assembly. The non-rotating sub-assembly comprises three accelerometers oriented orthogonally to each other and three directional sensors also oriented orthogonally to each other. Sample measurements from the six sensors are used to calculate the attitude of the wellbore and more specifically used to create an accurate survey of wellbores within a subterranean formation while the drill string is drilling.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2017Date of Patent: November 12, 2019Assignee: Nabors Lux 2 SARLInventors: Peter James Clark, Andrew Gorrara, Ola Stengel

Patent number: 10370913Abstract: A gripping device for gripping and spinning a pipe body of various diameters includes a gripping assembly having a pair of gripping arms for gripping the outer surface of the pipe body, and a spinning device having a pair of rollers for spinning the pipe body as it is engaged by gripping arms. The gripping device also includes a rotatable input shaft and a coupler. The coupler connects the rotatable input shaft to the gripping assembly and to the spinning device and is employed to selectively engage the gripping arms and the spinning device. A brake is provided so as to selectively prevent at least one of the gripping assembly and the spinning device from being operated upon rotating the rotatable input shaft.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2015Date of Patent: August 6, 2019Assignee: NABORS LUX 2 SARLInventors: Svein Søyland, Kjetil Næsgaar

Patent number: 9822637Abstract: A message to be sent from a downhole tool in a wellbore is modulated into a data uplink signal of pressure variations in the drill string. The pressure variations are generated by varying the torque on the rotor of the generator by varying the electric load on the generator. The pressure variation sequence of the data uplink signal may be selected from a look up table of known sequences. The message may be received by a surface receiver using one or more pressure sensors. The message may be demodulated from the detected pressure data using digital and analog signal processing. The frequency of the data uplink signal may be selected based in part on detected noise in the wellbore. The data uplink signal may be modulated using a spread spectrum protocol.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2016Date of Patent: November 21, 2017Assignee: Nabors Lux 2 SarlInventor: Andrew Gorrara
