Patent number: 4325566Abstract: The combined thrust and radial bearing is combined with a structure which defines two axially extending support surfaces. The bearing comprises two coaxial radially extending bearing plates and a set of rolling elements engaged between the plates. A first of the plates has a first flange extending axially from the inner peripheral edge of the first plate. A second of the plates has a second flange extending axially from the inner peripheral edge of the second plate. The flanges are concentric with each other and a radial bearing is interposed therebetween. The first plate has a third flange extending axially from the outer peripheral edge of the first plate and engaging one of the support surfaces to radially locate the first plate. The second plate is radially located relative to the structure by either the engagement of its second flange or the engagement of a fourth flange with the other of the support surfaces, the fourth flange extending axially from the outer peripheral edge of the second plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1980Date of Patent: April 20, 1982Assignee: NadellaInventor: Gerard Stephan

Patent number: 4325593Abstract: A composite bearing comprises a cup having a set of antifriction bearing elements around its inner wall, and a deformable washer disposed at the bottom of the cup. The washer comprises a body portion having a stud projecting outwardly from one side thereof and having a recess in the other side thereof opposite the stud. When the composite bearing is mounted on the end of a shaft, the shaft end pushes the stud inwardly towards the body portion and the stud deforms inwardly to at least partly fill the recess. The deformed pushing of the stud in the recess effectively reduces the reaction force exerted by the washer against the end face of the shaft and eliminates play between the bearing and shaft thereby reducing slapping of the end of the shaft against the bottom of the bearing cup.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1980Date of Patent: April 20, 1982Assignee: NadellaInventor: Bernard Mallet

Patent number: 4050130Abstract: Method for mounting a cylindrical bearing having a closed end wall around a trunnion of a cross member of a universal joint by fitting the bearing in a bore of the corresponding yoke under such conditions that the end wall of the bearing affords an elastically yieldable support, optionally through intermediate means, for the end face of the trunnion. The method comprises giving to the end face of the trunnion and to the parts conjugate therewith, namely the end wall of the bearing and/or the intermediate means, such an arrangement that, in a first stage of said fitting, when the parts conjugate with the end face merely come in contact with the latter and possibly in mutual contact, a first axial distance between the open end of the bearing and the end face is distinctly less than a second axial distance which must be finally obtained between the open end of the bearing and the end face.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1974Date of Patent: September 27, 1977Assignee: NadellaInventor: Alfred Pitner

Patent number: 4010533Abstract: The method for producing the transmission device including coupling means connected to a sleeve comprises forming a collar from an apertured blank of the coupling means and cold forming projecting portions on the outer surface of the collar for connecting the collar to rotate with the sleeve. The projecting portions may be formed by expanding the collar in a die from which die the collar is removed before connection to the sleeve. Alternatively, the projecting portions may be formed by radially expanding the collar in the sleeve whose inner surface has projecting portions which form the projecting portions of the collar upon contact with the collar during the expansion of the latter.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1975Date of Patent: March 8, 1977Assignee: NadellaInventor: Alfred Pitner

Patent number: 3983765Abstract: The pinion of a rack and pinion steering mechanism is assembled in a case by means of two bearings mounted on two bearing portions at each end of the pinion which are integral parts of the pinion. The bearings are capable of acting as two axial abutments for the pinion. One of the bearings is a cup acting as a smooth bearing. Longitudinally extending lubricating grooves are provided in the bearing portion within the cup. These grooves are extensions of the spare between roots of the gear teeth of the pinion and are machined by causing the tooth cutter to continue beyond the pinion and thereby cut the grooves in the bearing portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1973Date of Patent: October 5, 1976Assignee: NadellaInventor: Alfred Pitner

Patent number: 3964802Abstract: Bearing having in a body two rectilinear inner raceways interconnected by semi-circular inner end surfaces, particular outer end surfaces defining roller re-circulation passages with the semi-circular inner surfaces, and rollers which roll along the raceways and pass round the re-circulation passage. The rollers are guided at the roller ends by guide surfaces and are exposed on one of the sides of the bearing body. The rollers are retained radially to within a predetermined distance from the rectilinear inner raceways by means associated with the rollers and disposed in grooves in the bearing body adjacent the guide surfaces. Patent number: 3950834Abstract: To produce on at least one of the end faces of opposed trunnions of the cross member of a universal joint a bearing surface for the end wall of a bearing cup, or for a resilient washer interposed between the cup end wall and the trunnion, there is chosen for the distance between the centre of the cross member and the centre region of the end face a value which is different from the value of the desired distance in joint operation. This centre region is then subjected to the action of a tool whose hardness exceeds that of the metal of the trunnion by causing the tool to travel such distance that the active surface of the tool occupies a position in which there is formed, by a cold upsetting of the metal, a centre bearing surface which is at a distance from a reference point, such as the centre of the cross member, which is substantially equal to the desired value of the distance in joint operation.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1974Date of Patent: April 20, 1976Assignee: NadellaInventor: Alfred Pitner
