Publication number: 20170372646Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of display systems that provide directional emission from light emitting elements. The light emissive display systems disclosed provide methods and apparatus for controlling the direction and intensity of light emitted by the display. Display modules have a plurality of light emitting elements arranged in a predetermined pattern and providing a highly uniform visual effect. Arrangement of physical and optical components with respect to the position and orientation of light emitting devices collectively steers the light from the display with a controlled directionality and intensity.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2017Publication date: December 28, 2017Applicant: Nanolumens Acquisition, Inc.Inventors: Richard C. Cope, Edward Buckley, Jorge Perez-Bravo

Publication number: 20170365198Abstract: Display module mounting apparatus and methods provide mounting features enabling ease of installation and service. The apparatus may have one or more releasable frame couplers and pivoting releasable frame couplers coupled to a display module having a display plane defined in relation to a substrate. One or more adjustable linkages may adjustably define a standoff distance between the display plane and a support frame to which the module may be mounted by the mounting apparatus. Concave and convex adjustments to the display plane may be made. Operation of pivoting action to tilt the display plane enables installation, removal, and serviceability of large displays constructed with a tiled plurality of display modules.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2017Publication date: December 21, 2017Applicant: Nanolumens Acquisition, Inc.Inventors: Jorge Perez-Bravo, QINGHUA XIAO, BIN ZHU

Patent number: 9830885Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of flexible display modules and systems of flexible display modules. Display modules have a plurality of light emitting elements arranged in a predetermined pattern and providing a highly uniform visual effect. Alignment and complementary alignment features enable the alignment of adjacent display modules and the creation of large displays from a plurality of aligned display modules. Features to couple to and retain a support frame are provided. Flexible and durable weather resistance features are provided. Modules and systems have features that permit installation and removal from the front side or the back side of the display. A system of modular support frames works cooperatively with the display modules, adapting to different mounting environments, and thereby providing large modular displays with desirable properties.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2016Date of Patent: November 28, 2017Assignee: NanoLumens Acquisition, Inc.Inventors: Robert J Cross, Jorge Perez-Bravo

Patent number: 9831223Abstract: A flexible display includes a plurality of pixel chips, chixels, provided on a flexible substrate. The chixels and the light emitters thereon may be shaped, sized and arranged to minimize chixel, pixel, and sub-pixel gaps and to provide a desired bend radius of the display. The flexible substrate may include light manipulators, such as filters, light converters and the like to manipulate the light emitted from light emitters of the chixels. The light manipulators may be arranged to minimize chixel gaps between adjacent chixels.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2017Date of Patent: November 28, 2017Assignee: NanoLumens Acquisition, Inc.Inventor: Richard C. Cope

Publication number: 20170270896Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of in-situ display monitoring and calibration systems and methods. An image acquisition system captures images of the viewing plane of the display. Captured images may then be processed to characterize various visual performance characteristics of the display. When not in use capturing images of the display, the image acquisition system can be stored in a manner that protects it from environmental hazards such as dust, dirt, precipitation, direct sunlight, etc. A calibration image in which a plurality of light emitting elements is set to a particular color and intensity may be displayed, an image then captured, and then a difference between what was expected and what was captured may be developed for each light emitting element. Differences between captured images and expected images may be used to create a calibration data set which then may be used to adjust the display of further images upon the display.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2017Publication date: September 21, 2017Applicant: NanoLumens Acquisition, Inc.Inventors: Richard C. Cope, Theodore Heske, III

Publication number: 20170235033Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of photo-luminescent display systems and photo-luminescent visual elements creating eye-catching displays of visual advertising or marketing messages that are very effective at generating interest, engagement, and loyalty in the viewing public. Photo-luminescent pigment containing visual elements are illuminated by one or more remotely located emitters at a first wavelength that is outside the human visual spectrum. In response, the visual elements then radiate at one or more wavelengths within the human visual spectrum. Additional features control unwanted reflections and unwanted transmission of radiation at the first wavelength. Additional features control the uniformity of radiation of one or more wavelengths within the human visual spectrum.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 4, 2017Publication date: August 17, 2017Applicant: Nanolumens Acquisition, IncInventors: Robert J. Cross, Richard C. Cope, Jorge Perez-Bravo, Gary Feather, Theodore Heske, III
