Patent number: 10254528Abstract: A microscope insert includes a beam splitter, a camera, a processing unit, a display device, and a polarizer element. The beam splitter is configured to direct a first portion of first light from an object in a first direction and a second portion of the first light in a second direction. The display device is configured to generate a graphical representation of information relevant to the object and transmit second light corresponding to the graphical representation. The polarizer element is configured to modify a polarization of the second light from the display device. The beam splitter directs a first portion of the modified second light in the first direction to a viewing device. The first portion of the modified second light and the first portion of the first light from the object are combined for simultaneous viewing of the graphical representation and the object by the user.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2015Date of Patent: April 9, 2019Assignee: Nanophthalmos, LLCInventor: Richard Awdeh

Publication number: 20190000314Abstract: Systems and processes for performing posterior segment visualization and surgery assist a surgeon during surgery. Adapted instruments (I) used in ocular surgery include unique indicia, markings, or the like (40) which, when in the surgical field, can be identified by the system (FIG. 9). In turn, the system modifies the images that are projected into a display (10), e.g., a heads-up display, used by the surgeon, to display parameter data that is particular to the instrument (I) in use. The system also tracks the tip (16) of the instrument (I) in real time, determines the tissue that is closest to the instrument tip, automatically collects OCT data for that tissue, and displays images (20, 22) representative of that data in the display used by the surgeon. In this way, as the surgeon moves a surgical instrument around in the surgical field of the eye, the system automatically displays OCT image data of the tissue closest to the instrument tip.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 13, 2018Publication date: January 3, 2019Applicant: NANOPHTHALMOS LLCInventor: Richard M. Patent number: 10073515Abstract: A surgical guidance system and method for assisting a surgeon in a surgical procedure performed on a patient is disclosed. The system comprises an image acquisition device configured to generate substantially real-time digital video data representing patient images of an eye of the patient. The system further comprises a processor coupled to the image acquisition device and configured to receive the digital video data from the image acquisition device, receive external data from an external data source, and generate composite digital image data based on the digital video data and the external data. The system further comprises a display device coupled to the processor, the display device being configured to display, to the surgeon from the composite digital image data, overlaid images including procedural prompts according to the patient images and the external data.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2014Date of Patent: September 11, 2018Assignee: Nanophthalmos, LLCInventor: Richard Awdeh

Publication number: 20180049840Abstract: A microscope insert includes a camera, a display device, a beam splitter, and a processing unit. The camera is configured to receive a first portion of first light through a microscope from an object and generate a signal representing an image of the object. The display device is configured to generate a graphical representation of information relevant to the object and project second light representing the graphical representation. The beam splitter is configured to direct a second portion of the first light from the object and a first portion of the second light to a viewing device for simultaneously viewing the object and the information by a user. The processing unit is configured to track motions of the object based on the image of the object and control the display device to adjust the graphical representation according to the motions of the object.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2016Publication date: February 22, 2018Applicant: Nanophthalmos, LLC, (Circle)Inventor: RICHARD AWDEH

Publication number: 20130204236Abstract: A method of laser ocular surgery for treating glaucoma is disclosed. The method can include imaging a treatment eye to obtain an image of the treatment eye and aligning a laser on a region of the treatment eye based on the image of the treatment eye. The method can also include firing a plurality of laser pulses from the laser to ablate tissue in the region of the treatment site, wherein the tissue ablation creates micro-perforations in the region of the treatment site to incite an inflammatory reaction.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2012Publication date: August 8, 2013Applicant: Nanophthalmos, LLCInventor: Nanophthalmos, LLC
