  • Patent number: 7022299
Abstract: The present invention discloses an exfoliative clay and a derivative thereof and a method for producing the same. The exfoliative clay is formed by emulsion exfoliating an inorganic layered silicate clay with an amphibious intercalating agent by powerfully stirring at 60–180° C. and not less than 14.7 psig. The amphibious intercalating agent is obtained by copolymerizing polyoxyalkylene amine having molecular weight over 1,800 and polypropylene-grafting-maleic anhydride (PP-g-MA). Before emulsion exfoliation, the intercalating agent is acidified with an inorganic acid. The acidification is the key step for obtaining nanoscale of emulsifying particles less than 100 nm for the exfoliation. The exfoliative clay can be further extracted with a hydroxide or a chloride of alkali metal or alkaline-earth metal to obtain a derivative in the form of nanosilica plates which is free of organic portions.

  • Patent number: 6979582
Abstract: The present invention provides a vertical-cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) diode and a method for producing the same. In this method, an n-type and a p-type ohmic contact electrodes are previously disposed, and then two pairs of distributed Bragger reflectors (DBRs) are formed. At last, a permanent metal substrate is plated. According to the present invention, reflectivity of the DBRs can be preserved without damage during rapid thermal annealing, and thus brightness of the laser diode is improved.

  • Patent number: 6964878
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for producing an LED (light emitting diode), in which a transparent conductive film is formed between a transparent window and the front surface of a LED epitaxial layer. The transparent conductive film can be oxides, nitrides or fluorides of metals. The transparent conductive film can be preliminarily formed on one of the transparent window and the LED epitaxial layer or both of them by a suitable process, for example, thermal pressure. By involving the transparent conductive film, current spreading is improved and resistance is reduced because of larger cross section areas provided, particularly compared with the conventional spin on glass or polymer adhesives. Additionally, light-emitting efficiency can be improved since the conventional opaque substrate, such as a GaAs substrate.

  • Patent number: 6806112
Abstract: The present invention discloses a high brightness light emitting diode and a method for producing the same. The light emitting diode includes a gallium phosphide window and a reflective mirror so as to promote brightness thereof. To produce the light emitting diode, a glass substrate is bonded to the main structure of the light emitting diode and then the temporary substrate for epitaxing thereon can be removed for depositing a reflective mirror. After bonding a permanent substrate below the reflective mirror, the glass substrate is removed, too. By means of the double-bonding process, reflectivity of the mirror is maintained in the present invention.
