    Abstract: Genetic recombinant yeast expressing xylose reductase (XR), (wild-type or mutant) xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH), and xylulokinase (XK) and a method for highly efficiently producing ethanol from xylose using the yeast are provided. Pichia stipitis-derived XR and (wild-type or modified-type) XDH genes and Saccharomyces cerevisiae-derived XK gene were introduced via chromosomal integration. Thus, a genetic recombinant yeast having a high xylose fermentation rate, being capable of producing ethanol from xylose in high yields, and having high xylose fermentability in the presence of glucose, as well as a method using the recombinant yeast for highly efficiently producing ethanol from xylose or a saccharified solution from lignocellulose-based biomass are provided. Furthermore, a method for improving the xylose fermentability of the genetic recombinant yeast of the present invention via acclimatization treatment is also provided herein.

    Abstract: The present invention is to provide a process for producing a dispersion of fine core/shell type metal oxide particles and the dispersion thereby produced, the present invention are a process for producing a dispersion of fine core/shell type metal oxide particles comprising the steps of mixing a metal salt and a polymer in an organic solvent to obtain a mixture and heating this mixture under reflux at a prescribed temperature to precipitate metal oxide, wherein the metal salt is a nitrate salt or acetate salt and the particle diameter of the fine core/shell type metal oxide particles is adjusted using the molecular weight of the polymer, and a dispersion of fine core/shell type metal oxide particles obtained by the process, which does not undergo sedimentation even after standing for at least one day, and exhibits long-term stability, and a powder thereof.

    Abstract: This invention has a cell incorporating a built-in Schottky diode region disposed in at least part of an elementary cell that constitutes an SiC vertical MOSFET provided in a low-density p-type deposit film with a channel region and a base region inverted to an n-type by ion implantation. This built-in Schottky diode region has built therein a Schottky diode of low on-resistance that is formed of a second deficient pan disposed in a high-density gate layer, a second n-type base layer penetrating a low-density p-type deposit layer formed thereon, reaching an n-type drift layer of the second deficient part and attaining its own formation in consequence of inversion of the p-type deposit layer into an n-type by the ion implantation of an n-type impurity from the surface, and a source electrode connected in the manner of forming a Schottky barrier to the surface-exposed part of the second n-type base layer.

    Abstract: A temperature fixed-point cell is configured with a crucible composed of carbon and a fixed-point material enclosed in the crucible. The fixed-point material has a peritectic structure of carbon and a carbon compound. A thermometer is calibrated by installing the temperature fixed-point crucible in a furnace, increasing or decreasing the ambient temperature thereof, measuring the temperature of the temperature fixed-point cell with the thermometer, observing the state of temperature change, and using this state of temperature change as a basis for the calibration. This invention is aimed at realizing a fixed point in the temperature range exceeding the copper point and accomplishing great improvement in accuracy in the calibration of radiation thermometers, thermocouples and all thermometers used in high temperature ranges.
