Abstract: Techniques for live-writing and editing closed captions are disclosed. In one particular embodiment, the techniques may be realized as a method for generating captions for a live broadcast comprising the steps of receiving audio data, the audio data corresponding to words spoken as part of the live broadcast; analyzing the audio data with speech recognition software in order to generate unedited captions; and generating edited captions from the unedited captions, wherein the edited captions reflect edits made by a user. All of these steps may be performed during the live broadcast.

  • Publication number: 20140136554
Abstract: Embodiments include methods, systems, and non-transitory computer program products for recommending timely digital content to a user. The method includes receiving a request for a digital content recommendation for a content channel, and selecting a content collection from content collections associated with the content channel, where the content collection contains pre-selected digital content. The method also includes determining digital content candidates from the selected content collection based on pre-determined editorial rankings of digital content candidates or recently popular digital content among users. The method also includes filtering the digital content candidates to determine at least one recommended digital content candidate, where the filtering is based on a length of a digital content candidate, a date and time associated with the digital content candidate, or whether the user has previously consumed the digital content candidate.

  • Publication number: 20140013351
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention describe a method of generating an enhanced audio stream. The enhanced audio stream is generated from live audio received and accompanies a live video broadcast. This live audio is buffered and combined with a visual description of the live video broadcast. Together these form an enhanced audio stream. The visual description is entered by a visual describer while they are viewing a an instantaneously updated visual buffer size display. The visual buffer size display is calibrated to a pre-set maximum buffer size, and shows the pre-set maximum buffer size and the current buffer size in a visual manner. Further, live audio from the buffer that is inserted into the enhanced audio stream is compressed in time.

  • Publication number: 20130336496
Abstract: Computer implemented methods and systems for the prediction of the reception of a desired in-band on-channel digital audio broadcast signal (IBOC DAB) are described. A method includes computing a first ratio of a weaker undesired adjacent broadcast signal to a stronger undesired adjacent broadcast signal; computing a second ratio of the desired IBOC DAB signal to the stronger undesired adjacent broadcast signal. The method also includes computing a minimum allowable reception ratio based on the second ratio and the slope and intercept of a line, wherein the slope and intercept of the line is based on both (i) a plurality of ratios of a weaker adjacent broadcast signal to stronger adjacent broadcast signal and (ii) a plurality of ratios of a desired IBOC DAB signal to a stronger adjacent broadcast signal. Reception is predicted when the computed minimum allowable reception ratio is less than the first ratio.
