  • Patent number: 11519075
Abstract: A new spray process allows for deposition below a critical velocity limit of cold spray, while providing adhesion. Post deposition heat treatment has shown excellent coating strength. A wide variety of materials can be deposited. The spray process is based on ShockWave Induced Spraying (SWIS) but with much slower spray jet projection velocities. High porosity, pore size control, and porosity control are demonstrated to be controllable. Preheating of feedstock and uniform temperature of the SWIS delivery allow for the deposition below critical velocity.

  • Publication number: 20220274112
Abstract: A technique for supplying droplet content of an oil-encapsulated (OE) digital microfluidic (D?F) network to a region that is sensitive to oil contact involves sealing off a boundary surrounding the sensitive region with a volume of liquid that is miscible with payload of the OE-droplets. The sensitive region may be an opening to a microfluidic channel, or a sensor surface. The sealing off may be provided by transporting an unencapsulated droplet over the OE-D?F chip, either from a reservoir prior to oil encapsulation of the reservoir, or from a non-oil encapsulated reservoir; or by injecting the liquid into the microfluidic channel. A suitable treatment of the boundary may anchor the liquid to the boundary, and prevent removal by ordinary OE-D?F operations. A remainder of the surfaces of unit cells the D?F chip may provide higher droplet contact angle.

  • Patent number: 11396610
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of printing an ultranarrow line of a functional material. The method entails providing a substrate having an interlayer on the substrate and printing the ultranarrow line by depositing ink on the interlayer of the substrate, the ink comprising the functional material and a solvent mixture that partially dissolves the interlayer on the substrate to cause the ink to shrink and sink into the interlayer on the substrate thereby reducing a width of the line.

  • Patent number: 11387507
Abstract: An apparatus and method for initiating thermal runaway in a battery cell are provided. The apparatus and method may be used in safety research of battery cells and packs to initiate thermal runaway. The apparatus comprises a resistive heating element for positioning in thermal contact with the battery cell for transferring heat to a region of the battery cell. An energy source is electrically coupled to the resistive heating element. A switch selectively forms a circuit to send a current pulse through the resistive heating element to generate a power pulse at the resistive heating element to heat the region of the battery cell for initiating thermal runaway. Alternatively, the heating element is heated and held at a predetermined temperature until thermal runaway is initiated. The heat generation rate may be designed to be comparable to that of an internal short circuit within a cell, which is much faster than many existing slow heating methods used to initiate thermal runaway.

  • Publication number: 20220162337
Abstract: The present invention is directed to anti-Her2 antibodies and fragments thereof, compositions, and uses thereof. The antibodies and fragments thereof bind to Her2-expressing cells in a pH-dependent manner, with low affinity at the physiological pH typical of normal cells and tissues, and with high affinity at the slightly acidic pH characteristic to solid tumors. Furthermore, the antibodies inhibit the growth of tumor spheroids at a level comparable to that of the benchmark anti-Her2 antibody Herceptin at acidic pH, whereas these effects were significantly reduced at physiological pH. This pH selectivity of cellular growth inhibition is maintained upon antibody conjugation to cytotoxic drugs. The invention also includes methods of treating solid tumors, methods of detecting solid tumors, and methods of pH-dependent capturing of the Her-2 ectodomain.
