Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to selectively extract light rare earth metals, and by extension, europium, from an acidic solution containing a plurality of types of rare earth metal. This valuable metal extraction agent is represented by the general formula. In the formula: R1 and R2 each indicate the same or different alkyl group; R3 indicates a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; and R4 indicates a hydrogen atom or any given group other than an amino group bonded to the ? carbon as an amino acid. Preferably, the general formula has a glycine unit, a histidine unit, a lysine unit, an aspartic acid unit, or an N-methylglycine unit. Preferably, when extracting europium using the extraction agent, the pH is adjusted into the range of 2.0-3.0 inclusive, and when selectively extracting light rare earth metals, the pH is adjusted to 1.7-2.7 inclusive.

Abstract: A method includes measuring an occurrence frequency of elastic waves generated by cavitations in vascular tissues in vascular plant, before and after a change in water stress to the vascular plant, respectively by an elastic wave reception sensor fixed to an axis of the vascular plant, calculating a change rate of the occurrence frequency, from the occurrence frequency of the elastic wave measured before and after the change, respectively, and determining whether or not an embolism in the vascular tissue arrives at an unrecoverable level of the embolism, from the calculated change rate. And then, one can determine irrigation timing and quantity to the vascular plant, using an index based upon the above-determined result.

Abstract: Three-dimensional information is presented directly on the surface of a target three-dimensional object without using a display device such as a display monitor and an HUD. Spatially coded light patterns are projected from two projectors on a target object surface. The light projected from the two projectors are added up on the object surface to produce unified color and luminance. On the object surface, light is simply added up, so that a pattern whose color and brightness correspond to distance and height appears. Hence, a distance to an object or a three-dimensional shape of an object can be highlighted by the color and brightness presented on the object for perception by human beings.

Abstract: When communication is performed with the upstream and downstream sides being defined in the order of relay apparatuses, the relay apparatuses each transmit a keepalive message representing that they are effectively performing communication. When no keepalive message can be received from the relay apparatus and an abnormality is detected thereby, the relay apparatus transmits a keepalive message including abnormality information representing that the abnormality is detected. By receiving the keepalive message including the abnormality information, the relay apparatus detects the abnormality on the upstream side, changes a communication path, and transmits a master candidate notification to the relay apparatus on the downstream side in order that the relay apparatus itself becomes a master.
