Patent number: 10982381Abstract: A welding process may be configured to convert a substrate into a welded substrate by applying a process solvent to the substrate, wherein the process solvent interrupts one or more intermolecular force between one or more component in the substrate. The substrate may be configured as a natural fiber, such as cellulose, hemicelluloses, and silk. The process solvent may be configured as an ionic-liquid based solvent and the welded substrate may be a congealed network after the process solvent has been adequately swollen and/or mobilized the substrate. A welding process may be configured such that individual fibers of a substrate are not fully dissolved such that material in the fiber core may be left in the native state by controlling process variables. The welding process fibers may have a tenacity 10% or 20% greater or a diameter 25% less than that of a cellulosic-based yarn substrate.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2017Date of Patent: April 20, 2021Assignee: Natural Fiber Welding, Inc.Inventors: Luke Michael Haverhals, Aaron Kenneth Amstutz, Jonglak Choi, Xiling Tang, Michael Molter, Spencer Jacob Null

Patent number: 10982300Abstract: A direct reduction process for the production of ferrochrome from chromite ore or concentrate is disclosed. According to the present invention, calcium chloride (CaCl2) is added as a catalyst to accelerate the solid reduction and enhance the particle growth of the metallic phase (i.e. ferrochrome) during reduction. The reduction of chromite ore or concentrate takes place at much lower temperatures (e.g. 1200 to 1400° C.) compared to the conventional smelting technologies, and the ferrochrome particles formed are segregated from the unwanted residual gangue and spinel particles, facilitating their subsequent physical separation.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2017Date of Patent: April 20, 2021Assignee: Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada as represented by the Minister of Natural ResourcesInventors: Dawei Yu, Dogan Paktunc

Patent number: 10956129Abstract: A method evolves generic computational building blocks. The method initializes a parent population with randomly generated programs. The method also obtains a list of randomly generated test inputs. The method generates a target dataset that includes input-output pairs of randomly generated binary strings. The method also applies a fitness function to assign a fitness score to each program, based on the input-output pairs of the target dataset. The method grows a seed list by applying genetic operators to the programs, and selecting offspring that satisfy a novelty condition. The novelty condition is representative of an ability of a program to produce distinct and unique output for the list of randomly generated test inputs. The method iterates until a terminating condition has been satisfied. The terminating condition is representative of an ability of programs in the seed list to solve one or more genetic programming instances.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2020Date of Patent: March 23, 2021Assignee: Natural Computation LLCInventor: David James Landaeta

Patent number: 10955274Abstract: A flow metering apparatus comprising a temperature sensing system for use to measure temperature of fluid includes temperature measurement components and temperature sensing components in close proximity to one another and to the flow of fluid. The components can include a temperature measurement member close-coupled to a processor member, each disposed on a circuitized substrate. This configuration exposes a temperature sensor element to the same dynamic temperature conditions as the processor member, thus reducing measurement error that might manifest in response to different temperature gradients proximate the respective components. A storage memory may be used to permit the temperature sensing system to store and/or retain data that relates to calibration as a dynamic system over the entire operating range of the sensor element. The calibration data may then be accessed from the storage memory to improve accuracy and operation of the flow metering apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2019Date of Patent: March 23, 2021Assignee: Natural Gas Solutions North America, LLCInventors: Jeff Thomas Martin, Andrew Logan Perkins

Patent number: 10954448Abstract: A high temperature paraffinic froth treatment (HTPFT) process utilizes an unheated flash vessel as a first stage of solvent recovery in a paraffinic solvent recovery unit (PSRU) to minimize asphaltene precipitation and fouling in subsequent stages of solvent recovery. The HTPFT may utilize a heat pump circuit for heat integration in the PSRU where a first stage of solvent recovery is at a lower temperature than a second stage of solvent recovery. Froth entering froth separation vessels can be heated using heat in a tailings stream using a heat pump. Froth separation vessels used to separate froth for collecting a bitumen-containing overflow utilize a collector pot and conventional feedwell combination, or a combination of a collection ring and nozzle arrangement for reducing disturbance in the vessel and improving collection of the overflow.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2018Date of Patent: March 23, 2021Assignee: CANADIAN NATURAL RESOURCES LIMITEDInventors: William Nicholas Garner, Alvaro Blanco, Guillaume Viguie, Randy Paine, Jiangying Wu, Julio Gomez, Eduardo Fernandez, Matthew Armour

Patent number: 10935401Abstract: A power supply is configured with “smart” technology compatible with functionality on metrology hardware, like gas meters. This technology enables functions on the power supply to retain and generate data. The data may characterize discharge of an energy source, like batteries, that is resident on the power supply. Other data may indicate charge levels that are commensurate with ambient storage and use conditions, for example, to identify effects of “self-discharge” that may occur on the power supply after manufacture but before use on the gas meter. In one implementation, the gas meter may process the data from the power supply to track connection (and disconnection) of the power supply, set life expectancy of the power supply, and manage maintenance on the device as necessary to pre-empt issues that may occur at the end-of-usable life for the power supply, among other favorable functions.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2017Date of Patent: March 2, 2021Assignee: Natural Gas Solutions North America, LLCInventor: Roman Leon Artiuch
