Patents Assigned to Navman New Zealand
  • Patent number: 7973704
Abstract: The present invention relates to a handheld radar apparatus. The apparatus comprises an antenna (22,23) adapted to transmit and receive electromagnetic signals, a direction sensor (24, 25) that outputs an orientation signal indicative of the orientation of the antenna, and a radar (21) coupled to the antenna (22, 23), the radar (21) adapted to generate an electromagnetic signal for transmission via the antenna (22, 23), and adapted to receive a reflected version of the electromagnetic signal via the antenna (22, 23) reflected from an object. The radar (21) comprises a processor (30) for generating location information indicative of the location of the object using the received reflected electromagnetic signal and the orientation of the antenna (22,23) as indicated by the orientation signal, and a screen (4) adapted to display indicia (e.g. 43a to 43c) representing the object and its location based on the location information.

  • Publication number: 20070244639
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide an autopilot display system and method that provides a simultaneous display of two possible positions or courses. The system can display the predicted position of a vessel if a first autopilot maneuver is selected and the predicted position of the vessel if a different autopilot maneuver no maneuver is selected. The user of the system then has a clear idea of the consequences of the selection of a particular maneuver. The system may also include means to select a maneuver directly from the display.

  • Publication number: 20060187113
Abstract: A visual illumination system incorporated between upper and lower radar dome assemblies external to a ship or boat's bridge or cockpit is disclosed. The visual illumination system provides a visual indication of those sectors in which the radar antenna is transmitting for personnel moving around the upper deck. The visual illumination system may also provide a visual indication of which sectors are currently blanked, thereby reducing a user's risk of inadvertent exposure to electromagnetic radiation. Visual indicators such as LEDs are spaced in sectors about the radar assembly with each LED being energized when the antenna transmits in its sector. The visual illumination system may be also installed on masthead assemblies where the radar antenna is not enclosed within a radar dome.
