  • Patent number: 7461773
Abstract: A method is provided of operating an image-based check depositing terminal in response to a fault condition. The method comprises the steps of receiving a non-customer identification card from an individual who is other than a customer conducting a check deposit transaction at the check depositing terminal, reading from the card data which is associated with a financial institution, receiving from the individual a check which has been recovered from the terminal by the individual while clearing the fault condition, capturing an image of the check received from the individual, transporting the check to a check storage bin after the image of the check has been captured, and transmitting to the financial institution the captured image of the check together with the data which is associated with the financial institution. The method may further comprise the step of returning the non-customer identification card to the individual after the check has been transported to the check storage bin.

  • Publication number: 20020089536
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for displaying multiple window applets on a computer. The applet is written using the frame class and intercepts the methods by which an applet is started and started by the computer to allow more than one applet, or more than one applet window, to be open at any given time. By intelligently intercepting the start and stop methods, and tracking which applets are open, multiple applets can be open at any given time within the system.

  • Patent number: 5659724
Abstract: An information retrieval system implemented as a virtual data base management system which uses a knowledge base management system to provide a problem-oriented conceptual schema for one or more standard data base management systems. In the conceptual schema, a hierarchy of concepts is used to organize individual objects. A classifier determines which concepts an individual object is a representative of and determines the relationship of new concepts to existing concepts. The use of a knowledge base with a classifier permits conversion of queries into concepts and detection of changes in the relationships between individual objects and the concepts. A window-based user interface permits flexible and experimental access to the information. Special features of the user interface permit the user to specify conversion of a query into a concept, to establish monitors to detect such changes, and to define a query by specifying a portion of a graph.
