Patent number: 8931559Abstract: A depressurization tool is described for use downhole in depressurizing an isolated zone. A decompression chamber containing a compressible fluid volume is described. The opening of the chamber is sealed with a closure that is configured to open upon application of a pressure differential across the opening. When used downhole within an isolated and nonpermeable wellbore zone, excessive ambient pressure will cause the closure to open and allow the chamber to fill with fluid at increased pressure, depressurizing the wellbore zone. The tool is useful in wellbore completion systems that include sliding sleeves.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2012Date of Patent: January 13, 2015Assignee: NCS Oilfield Services Canada, Inc.Inventors: Donald Getzlaf, Marty Stromquist, John Edward Ravensbergen, Lyle Laun, Eric Schmelzl

Patent number: 8490702Abstract: A tool assembly and method for completing a well are provided. The tool includes debris relief features that enable use in solids-laden environments, for example in the presence of sand. Forward and reverse circulation pathways to the isolated interval are present to allow clearing of debris from the wellbore annulus while the sealing device remains set against the wellbore.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2010Date of Patent: July 23, 2013Assignee: NCS Oilfield Services Canada Inc.Inventors: Marty Stromquist, Donald Getzlaf, Robert Nipper

Publication number: 20130180721Abstract: A treatment device and method for use in delivering fluid treatment to a wellbore is described. The device includes a first treatment housing and a second treatment housing, mounted along a tubing string, each of the first and second housing defining a fluid pathway which is continuous with the tubing string and each of the first and second treatment housing defining a port for fluid communication between the tubing string and the wellbore. Fluid flow through the first housing may be selectively blocked by delivery of a deformable ball to the tubing string to seal against a ball seat disposed between the first and second housing. While the first pathway is blocked, fluid may be selectively delivered to the wellbore through the port on the second treatment housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2012Publication date: July 18, 2013Applicant: NCS Oilfield Services Canada Inc.Inventor: NCS Oilfield Services Canada Inc.

Publication number: 20130133891Abstract: An equalization valve that allows for continuous equalization of pressure above and below a sealing element is disclosed. The equalization valve includes a housing having a fluid passageway therethrough. The fluid passageway is fluidically continuous across a sealing element disposed on a mandrel. The mandrel is part of a sealing assembly that contains the sealing element. The equalization valve includes a valve plug moveable from an open position in which the valve plug is not engaged with the sealing mandrel to a seated position in which the valve plug is seated against the sealing mandrel. The valve plug defines a conduit, the conduit that provides for a minimal fluid flow across the sealing element, when the valve plug is seated against the sealing mandrel. The sealing element remains sealingly engaged against the wellbore while the plug is in the seated position and while minimal fluid flow is occurring.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2012Publication date: May 30, 2013Applicant: NCS Oilfield Services Canada Inc.Inventor: NCS Oilfield Services Canada Inc.

Publication number: 20080264636Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying hydraulic treatment and diversion treatment to a wellbore are described. The method involves isolating a wellbore segment using hydraulic seals; applying fluid treatment and perforation diverters within the isolated segment; and scraping a portion of the wellbore after termination of treatment to remove any lodged perforation diverters from the wellbore. A collection chamber may also be provided for collecting used diverters for return to surface following treatment. In one embodiment, diverters used and collected within a first segment may be reused during treatment of a successive wellbore segment.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2008Publication date: October 30, 2008Applicant: NCS Oilfield Services Canada Inc.Inventors: Marty Stromquist, Clayton Plucheck
