Abstract: A method and system for image resample by spatial interpolation. The method and system allow more than simple angle interpolation by allowing spatial interpolation to be performed on small angle edges. Multiple interpolation directions are established. Once an interpolation direction is selected, verifications are performed on the selected interpolation direction in order to rule out erroneous selection. If the selected interpolation direction passes all verifications, then spatial interpolation will be performed along the selected interpolation direction. Otherwise, a default interpolation direction is used as the interpolation direction.
Abstract: Fuzzy logic based system and method for 3:2 pull-down film mode detection that detects whether a stream of NTSC video fields originate from film source via 3:2 pull-down technique. Fuzzy logic is used to generate a reference sequence of symbols from the stream of NTSC video fields. This reference sequence is adapted for indicating whether or not the video fields originate from film source.
Abstract: A method and system for performing fuzzy logic based de-interlacing on film source fields that might be mixed with video on film. An embodiment of the invention comprises an adaptive de-interlacer by weighing between merge operation and interpolation operation in the case of occurring video on film motion object. A weighing factor is generated from video on film pattern based on fuzzy logic inference rules. This weighing factor specifies the weighting between merging and interpolating in assigning the pixel values of the progressive display output.
Abstract: Method and system for an adaptive three-dimensional Y/C comb filter are disclosed. A composite TV signal is input into a color decoder. A first decision-making module determines if an edge passing through a current sample pixel is a color or colorless edge. If the edge is colorless, a second decision-making module determines if the edge is lying vertically, horizontally, or temporally. Once the second decision-making module determines the direction in which the edge lies, the module applies an appropriate Y/C comb filter to the input composite TV signal. If the edge is a color edge, a third decision-making module determines if the edge is lying vertically, horizontally, or temporally. Once the third decision-making module determines the direction in which the edge lies, the module applies an appropriate Y/C comb filter to the input composite TV signal.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for a three-dimensional luminance/chrominance (Y/C) seperation comb filter bank. The method and system consider the effect of motions in the temporal domain as the effect of edges in the spatial domain. The method and system apply a temporal filter to the section rule of edge location detection in the spatial domain. With this applications, the three-dimension comb filter bank can separate Y and C from each other freely without motion consideration. The method and system do not simply exploit the topology in the pixel phases. Rather, the method and system consider the Y/C comb filter to operate from the spectral viewpoint. Temporal filtering function is increased to better utilize the memory buffers of the three-dimensional filter. In so doing, balanced usage among the horizontal, vertical and temporal filter functions is achieved using the method and system.
Abstract: Non-standard broadcast television signals are processed and converted for proper reception and display. Extra or missing horizontal lines are processed using modulo or digital phase lock loop-type circuit to change clock output signal proportionately according to a difference determined by comparing a standard video signal value with an actual input signal line count value, such that modified clock output signal serves as a clock input signal for circuit accepting standard video format. Non-standard video signal having improper odd-even field sequencing is also processed and converted.

Abstract: A fuzzy logic based digital color transition improvement method and apparatus for increasing color sharpness by replacing the slow transition color edges with edges that have steeper rising and falling times. Fuzzy logic used here to decide where the transition happens and how to enhance the signal when transition happens. Based on the results of fuzzy logic inference, through weighting among input digital color signal, its N-pixel delayed signal and 2N-pixel delayed signal, the output signal has steep and smooth color edges without ringing.
