  • Patent number: 8014486
Abstract: Methods and systems of generating a frequency switching local oscillator signal are disclosed. One method includes generating a reference clock signal, and clocking a counter with the reference clock signal. The counter controls selection of a one of a plurality of analog values stored in at least one of a plurality of periodic signal generators. The frequency switching local oscillator signal is generated by selecting an output of a one of the plurality of periodic signal generators.

  • Patent number: 8000376
Abstract: Methods of adjusting a transmit time of a wireless device are disclosed. One method includes a receiver determining a frequency hopping sequence of an interfering signal. The receiver obtains an observed pattern of at least one of time and frequency overlap between the interfering signal and a signal of interest. The receiver determines a desired pattern of at least one of time and frequency overlap between the interfering signal and the signal of interest. A desired transmit time delay of the signal of interest is adjusted based on a difference between the observed pattern and the desired pattern.

  • Patent number: 7978748
Abstract: Methods and systems of a receiver selecting a subset of plurality of frequency hopping bands for synchronization of the receiver are disclosed. One method includes the receiver determining a receive signal quality metric for each band of the plurality of frequency hopping bands, and selecting at least one synchronization band as a subset of the plurality of frequency hopping bands for synchronization based on the receive signal quality metric of each of the plurality of frequency hopping bands.

  • Patent number: 7965787
Abstract: Methods and systems of receiving wireless signals are disclosed. One method includes a receiver characterizing signal quality parameters of receive signals for a plurality of receive diversity settings. The receiver selects a first receive diversity setting for synchronizing the receiver with the receive signal based on the characterized signal quality parameters. The receiver selects a second receive diversity setting for receiving data with the receive signal based on the characterized signal quality parameters.

  • Patent number: 7826860
Abstract: A device and method for of synchronizing a MAC superframe of a wireless device is disclosed. The wireless device can be located within a chain of a plurality of other wireless devices. The method includes receiving beacons from at least one other device during a superframe of the wireless device, determining a superframe offset for each of the other wireless devices based on timing of the received beacons, determining a corrective delay based on the superframe offsets, inserting the corrective delay within a current superframe of the wireless device, and inserting a predictive delay within the current superframe, the predictive delay being determined by an estimate of a difference between a frequency a clock of the wireless device and a frequency of a slowest clock of the other wireless devices within the chain.

  • Patent number: 7733979
Abstract: A method an apparatus for controlling a transmission signal power level of a transmitter is disclosed. The method includes receiving a root-mean-squared target power level. A duty cycle of a transmission signal is determined that indicates power on and power off periods over a predetermined sensing interval. A transmission signal power level is sensed. The transmission signal power level is adjusted to be approximately equal to the target power level divided by the duty cycle.

  • Patent number: 7719999
Abstract: A method and apparatus of predicting link quality of a link are disclosed. One exemplary method includes a receiver receiving multi-carrier modulated signals over a period of time. A signal to noise ratio (SNR) for each received sub-carrier is estimated. An ordered sequence of the signal to noise ratios (SNR)s are constructed based on interleaving of the multi-carrier modulated signals, wherein an order of the interleaving is used to set the ordered sequence of the signal to noise ratios (SNR)s. The receiver estimates link packet error rate (PER) based upon knowledge of encoding of the multi-carrier modulated signals used during transmission and the ordered sequence.

  • Patent number: 7672396
Abstract: Methods of reducing spectral leakage due to I-Q imbalance within a transmitter are disclosed. The method includes the transmitter receiving a data stream of coefficients of a multi-carrier modulation signal. The data stream is pre-processed by processing a set of the coefficients that correspond with selected notch frequencies to reduce the effects of I-Q imbalance of the transmitter, wherein at least a portion of the set of coefficients corresponds to non-symmetrical notch frequencies. The pre-processed data stream is multi-carrier modulated. The multi-carrier modulated pre-processed data stream is I-Q modulated before transmission.

  • Patent number: 7623886
Abstract: A method and apparatus of calibrating a transmitter are disclosed. The method includes attenuating transmitter output signals as controlled by an output control signal, ensuring that an average power of the transmitter output signals is below a threshold level, and performing calibration of the transmitter at periods of time in which the output control signal is attenuating the transmitter output signals a lesser amount. The lesser amount can be less than an average of a minimum amount of attenuation and a maximum amount of attenuation. The apparatus includes a transmitter that includes a frequency up-converting LO mixer for frequency up-converting base band signals, generating transmitter output signals, a transmitter antenna for transmitting the transmitter output signals, and control circuitry for controlling attenuating the transmitter output signals during a calibration of the transmitter.
