Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) device includes: a liquid crystal (LC) panel defining thereon an array of pixels each including a reflective area driven in a longitudinal electric field and a transmissive area driven in a lateral electric field; a quarter-wavelength retardation film disposed in the reflective area in front of a LC layer; and first and second polarizing films sandwiching therebetween the LC panel. The LC molecules in the LC layer have a major axis parallel or perpendicular to an optical axis of the first polarizing film disposed in front of the LC panel.
