Abstract: A storage system includes: an identification information providing means that provides identification information distinguishing a group of data requested to be stored, to the group of data; a data set generating means that divides storage target data as part of the group of data into multiple pieces and makes the data redundant, thereby generating a data set composed of multiple fragment data; and a distribution storage controlling means that distributes the fragment data composing the data set and store the fragment data, respectively, in same positions within storage regions formed in the respective storing means, thereby storing the storage target data. The distribution storage controlling means stores the fragment data composing respective data sets corresponding to multiple storage target data included in the group of data provided with the same identification information, into the respective storage regions so that storing positions within the respective storage regions become successive.

Abstract: A finger/palm-print image processing apparatus comprises: an image converting means that converts finger/palm-print images to conversion images consisting of first and second sets of elements; and an area detecting means that detects, from the conversion images as converted by the image converting means, an area where the number of the first set of elements is equal to or greater than a predetermined number. The first and second sets of elements herein are the elements of sets each of which consists of elements of the finger/palm-print images. The first set of elements have those degrees of change in color information which meet a predetermined criterion, while the second set of elements have those degrees of change in color information which do not meet the predetermined criterion.

Abstract: A figure reading apparatus capable of increasing the processing rate while maintaining the recognition precision, includes an image input apparatus for inputting a color image and a data processing apparatus for conducting processing on the input color image. The figure reading apparatus has a main color extraction function of extracting main colors contained in the color image and resolving the color image into main color images respectively of the main colors extracted from the input color image, a projection function of projecting points of extracted main colors on a three-dimensional space onto a plane by using a conversion expression, a candidate narrowing down function of removing combinations that need not be combined according to features of distance between main colors projected onto a two-dimensional space, and a combination generation function of combining images from candidates narrowed down and generating an image area candidate.
