Abstract: A semiconductor package board for mounting thereon a semiconductor chip includes a metal base having an opening for receiving therein the semiconductor chip and a multilayer wiring film layered onto the metal base. The semiconductor chip is flip-chip bonded onto the metal pads disposed on the multilayer wiring film within the opening. The surface of the metal base is flush with the top surface of the semiconductor chip received in the opening. The resultant semiconductor device has a larger number of external pins and a smaller deformation without using a stiffener.

Abstract: A microlouver has, as a basic unit, a light-controlling layer in which a light-absorbing layer and a transparent layer are laminated together, and a plurality of basic units L and S comprising a plurality of types of light-controlling layers having different layer thicknesses or optical constants, disposed in the direction of the layer thickness of the basic units. The array mode of the basic units L and S is determined based on a random number or a sequence-generating rule. For this reason, the microlouver has a large number of frequency components in terms of spatial frequency, and moire fringes that have a specific period and are normally caused by the interference with other optical elements are therefore prevented from occurring.

Abstract: A drive circuit has a judgement circuit for judging whether the magnitude of the input video data resides in a linear region or the non-linear region of characteristic of liquid crystal transmittance. When the vide data resides within the linear region, some of the output gray-scale voltage for the LCD are generated by interpolation of adjacent two of the gray-scale voltages generated by a voltage generator. The reduced gray-scale voltage taps reduces the circuit scale and the test procedures for the drive circuit.
