Abstract: The invention provides a coating composition comprising a sol-gel matrix which comprises a binder and nanoparticles of a metal oxide, and nanoparticles and/or microparticles of a layered inorganic filler. In addition, the invention provides a process for preparing said coating composition. Moreover, the invention relates to the use of said-coating in an antifouling paint, fouling-release paint or in a biomedical and hygienic application. Further, the invention provides an antifouling paint or a fouling-release paint and a medical device comprising said coating composition.
