Patent number: 12291055Abstract: Transfer assemblies, sheets, and methods for manufacturing the same, are provided for transferring images to articles, such as textiles, fabric or the like. A transfer sheet comprises a support layer, such as a backing paper, and an image transfer layer that includes a binder and an ink receptor. The image transfer layer further includes a release layer between the support layer and the image transfer layer. The release layer comprises a crosslinking agent and is configured so that the image transfer layer can be detached from the backing paper prior to the transfer of the image to the substrate or article. This allows the use of thin parchment paper as the protective cover for the image layer during the transfer process instead of the backing paper, which accelerates and enhances the transfer of heat to the image transfer layer and the article resulting in deeper penetration of the ink.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2024Date of Patent: May 6, 2025Assignee: NEENAH INC.Inventor: Abdu Bunch

Patent number: 10857824Abstract: Printable substrates that provide a glossy printable surface with solvent resistance are provided. The printable substrate may include a base sheet having a first surface and a second surface, and a printable coating on the first surface. The printable coating includes a film-forming binder mixture, a crosslinking agent, a partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol, a first plurality of first silicon dioxide microparticles, a second plurality of second silicon dioxide microparticles, and a cationic dye fixative. The printable substrate may have a gloss level of about 50 to about 60 based on measurement of a gloss meter set with an angle of measurement of 75 degree on the external surface of the printable coating.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2017Date of Patent: December 8, 2020Assignee: Neenah, Inc.Inventor: Abdu Yohance Bunch

Patent number: 10519320Abstract: Methods are generally disclosed for forming and using a release sheet. To form the release sheet, a release coating is applied over a first surface of a base sheet. Generally, the release coating includes a fatty alcohol ester of acrylic acid and a curable monomer, and can also include a curable polymeric resin. Then, the release coating can be cured. In one particular embodiment, the release coating can be substantially free from siloxanes. The release sheet formed according to this method is also generally provided, along with methods of forming a casting sheet using the release sheet are also generally provided.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2014Date of Patent: December 31, 2019Assignee: Neenah, Inc.Inventors: Frank J. Kronzer, Stephen C. Lapin, Melanie K. Calkins, Gerry D. Rector

Patent number: 10450681Abstract: Methods for forming a hydroentangled scrim sheet are provided. The method can include hydroentangling a scrim sheet having a first layer of staple fibers on a first side of the scrim sheet and a second layer of staple fibers on a second side of the scrim sheet to form a hydroentangled scrim sheet; calendaring the hydroentangled scrim sheet to form a calendared hydroentangled scrim sheet; impregnating the hydroentangled scrim sheet with a saturant composition; drying the saturant composition impregnated into the calendared hydroentangled scrim sheet; applying a bond coat onto a surface of the calendared hydroentangled scrim sheet; and applying a top coat onto the bond coat. The top coat is, in one embodiment, configured to provide a surface for further coatings thereon.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2014Date of Patent: October 22, 2019Assignee: Neenah, Inc.Inventor: Ganesh Deka

Patent number: 10156040Abstract: Methods and kits for treating a fibrous substrate prior to forming an image thereon are provided. The method can include positioning a treatment sheet adjacent to the fibrous substrate, transferring a salt (e.g., calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, or a mixture thereof) from the treatment sheet to the fibrous substrate using a wetting solution (e.g., an aqueous solution, such as water) to carry the salt from the treatment sheet into the fibrous substrate, and drying the fibrous substrate such that the salt remains in the substrate. For example, the transfer of the salt from the treatment sheet into the fibrous substrate can be accomplished via pressing the backside of the treatment sheet such that the wetting solution flows from the treatment sheet into the fibrous substrate while carrying the salt.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2016Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignee: Neenah, Inc.Inventors: Russell Dolsey, Francis J. Kronzer, Melanie K. Calkins
