  • Patent number: 7311359
Abstract: A zero gravity chair generally holds an occupant in a position where the angle between the legs and the torso may be greater than 90 degrees. Typically, the legs may also be elevated such that the legs are even with or above a user's heart. The disclosed zero gravity chair, in some embodiments, enables the backrest portion to pivot relative to the seat portion allowing the user to adjust an angle between the seat portion and the backrest portion. The disclosed zero gravity chair further enables both the backrest and the seat portions to pivot as a unit independent of the angle adjustment. In certain embodiments, the chair also rotates 360 degrees about a vertical axis.

  • Publication number: 20060087159
Abstract: A reclining chair system that features a recliner motion mechanism used for positioning a reclining unit that includes a seat and a seat back having a fixed positional relationship to each other, including a gear rack adapted to receive a gear that travels in engagement with the gear rack, a gear shaft attached to the gear and driven by a drive motor for rotating the gear and causing it to move along the gear rack, a connection between the drive motor and seat that causes the seat back to move, as the gear travels along the gear rack, at least at the seat back's lower edge, and generally in the direction of the gear rack, and a fixed position curved track, adapted to be engaged by a follower, the follower being connected to the seat back at a position for causing a rotational movement of the seat back relative to a rotational axis of the gear, to guide the seat back during movement of the gear along the gear rack.

  • Patent number: 4153293
Abstract: A back rest constructed to be supported at its foot on a seat structure and to rest against the back of the seat structure comprising a rigid frame, a normally flat, flexible back support mounted on the frame with the lower end thereof stationary and the upper end movable and a screw rotatably mounted to the frame at the upper end operable to move the movable end of the flexible back support relative to the stationary end to bow the back support convexly forwardly with respect to the frame. Alternatively, an eccentric supported at the back side of a flexible back support in engagement therewith is used to effect bowing of the flexible back support. A bottom support pivotally connected at one end to the foot of the frame so as to extend forwardly from the foot across the seat provides for holding the foot of the frame against the back of the seat structure and a seat cover.
