In general, the present teachings may include a cable pulley engaged with a constant torque spring unit structurally configured to apply an approximately constant torque to the cable spool that promotes rotation of a spool thereof for winding of a lift cable about the spool to lift a load. Also disclosed are techniques for improving such a constant toque lifting unit such as an inertial brake structurally configured to slow down or stop an undesired, accelerated winding of a lift cable, a self-coiling device structurally configured to advantageously wind the lift cable a predetermined amount (e.g., for removal of same as a hinderance), and an attachment mechanism structurally configured to securely couple to a load.

Abstract: The multichannel fiber optic connector, adapter, and contact retention method is disclosed. The connector includes a load carousel which enables handling, locating, retention, and, where needed, spring-loading of the plurality of single-fiber fiber optic ferrules supported within the connector, and the connector itself provides for independent axial and radial alignment of the fiber optic contacts. The adapter includes a plurality of optical alignment sleeves, and mating interfaces for two different connector types on differing sides of the adapter, wherein the fiber count of one connector type is an integral multiple of the fiber count of the other connector type, and wherein the contact pattern of the first connector type is repeated the same integral number of times within the contact pattern of the second connector type.

Abstract: A convertible hammock assembly includes a flexible hammock defining a fabric bed having opposing ends and opposing sides, and suspension lines extending from the opposing ends of the fabric bed for hanging the flexible hammock between spaced apart structures. An elongated rigid spreader bar is located at one end of the fabric bed. A conversion cord selectively laterally tensions the fabric bed between opposite ends of the spreader bar, such that the flexible hammock is convertible between a generally inclined condition with increased lateral bed tension at the spreader bar, and a generally flat condition with reduced lateral bed tension at the spreader bar.
