  • Patent number: 11055005
Abstract: Techniques are provided for background deduplication using trusted fingerprints. Trusted fingerprints of blocks are inserted into a trusted fingerprint store as the blocks are being allocated by a file system sequentially according to block numbers of the blocks. In this way, the trusted fingerprint store is indexed by block numbers of where the blocks are stored. Blocks that are to be deduplicated are identifying by sorting the blocks based upon weak fingerprints, and moving duplicates to a dup file. The dup file is sorted based upon block numbers. Trusted fingerprints are loaded from the trusted fingerprint store for deduplicating the blocks within the dup file.

  • Patent number: 11048430
Abstract: Techniques are provided for object store mirroring. Data within a storage tier of a node may be determined as being data to tier out to a primary object store based upon a property of the data. A first object is generated to comprise the data. A second object is generated to comprise the data. The first object is transmitted to the primary data store for storage in parallel with the second object being transmitted to a mirror object store for storage. Tiering of the data is designated as successful once acknowledgements are received from both the primary object that the first object was stored and the mirror object store that the second object was stored.

  • Patent number: 11044148
Abstract: An optimistic and failsafe technique validates network configurations of storage and compute nodes deployed as a cluster. An optimistic aspect of the technique, saves an initial network configuration state of each node as a “failsafe” state and an expected network end-state is applied to each node. According to a validation aspect of the technique, each node employs a test to validate connectivity with other nodes in the cluster. In response to every validating node responding to a coordinating node that the validation test succeeded, an “all-clear” message is sent to all of the nodes instructing each node to maintain the applied expected network end-state. If any node is unreachable due to a configuration validation failure, then a failsafe aspect of the technique is invoked wherein the all-clear message is not sent and the remaining nodes of the cluster automatically “roll-back” to the initial failsafe network state after a timeout.

  • Patent number: 11036423
Abstract: Techniques are provided for overlapping write handling. Overlapping write managers are used to maintain the order that write operations are executed at a first computing environment and replicated to a second computing environment. Overlapping write managers are pre-allocated as available for managing overlapping write operations. A mapping is used to track what overlapping write managers are currently allocated for particular file handles of files. Thus, if an incoming write operation targets a file handle of an already allocated overlapping write manager, then that overlapping write manager is used to execute and replicate the incoming write operation so that the order of execution of overlapping writes by the second computing environment is the same as at the first computing environment. If there is no allocated overlapping write manager for the file handle, then a new overlapping write manager is allocated and utilized.

  • Patent number: 11036600
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for preventing non-detectable data loss during site switchover are disclosed. A computer-implemented method may include receiving a request to perform a switchover from a first node to a second node, determining whether to place a storage volume involved in the switchover in a suspended state, setting the storage volume in the suspended state based on determining that the storage volume is to be placed in the suspended state, and maintaining the storage volume in the suspended state after completing the switchover. In an example, the storage volume may be placed in a suspended state based on examining a volume-specific attribute indicating whether the storage volume is to be suspended when involved in a switchover. In one example, each storage volume involved in a switchover may be placed in a suspended state when indicated as part of a switchover request.

  • Patent number: 11023340
Abstract: Technology is disclosed for storing data in a distributed storage system using a virtual chunk service (VCS). In the VCS based storage technique, a storage node (“node”) is split into multiple VCSs and each of the VCSs can be assigned a unique ID in the distributed storage. A set of VCSs from a set of nodes form a storage group, which also can be assigned a unique ID in the distributed storage. When a data object is received for storage, a storage group is identified for the data object, the data object is encoded to generate multiple fragments and each fragment is stored in a VCS of the identified storage group. The data recovery process is made more efficient by using metadata, e.g., VCS to storage node mapping, storage group to VCS mapping, VCS to objects mapping, which eliminates resource intensive read and write operations during recovery.

  • Patent number: 11016864
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for cluster configuration information replication, managing cluster-wide service agents, and/or for cluster-wide outage detection. In an example of cluster configuration information replication, a replication workflow corresponding to a storage operation implemented for a storage object (e.g., renaming of a volume) of a first cluster may be transferred to a second storage cluster for selectively implementation. In an example of managing cluster-wide service agents, cluster-wide service agents are deployed to nodes of a cluster storage environment, where a master agent actively processes cluster service calls and standby agents passively wait for reassignment as a failover master in the event the master agent fails. In an example of cluster-wide outage detection, a cluster-wide outage may be determined for a cluster storage environment based upon a number of inaccessible nodes satisfying a cluster outage detection metric.

  • Patent number: 11010078
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or computing devices are provided for inline deduplication. For example, a checksum hash table and/or a block number hash table may be maintained within memory (e.g., a storage controller may maintain the hash tables in-core). The checksum hash table may be utilized for inline deduplication to identify potential donor blocks that may comprise the same data as an incoming storage operation. Data within an in-core buffer cache is eligible as potential donor blocks so that inline deduplication may be performed using data from the in-core buffer cache, which may mitigate disk access to underlying storage for which the in-core buffer cache is used for caching. The block number hash table may be used for updating or removing entries from the hash tables, such as for blocks that are no longer eligible as potential donor blocks (e.g., deleted blocks, blocks evicted from the in-core buffer cache, etc.).
