Abstract: A constant-current regulator for high-powered airport lighting loops combined a ferroresonant transformer and a digital programmable logic device to provide a versatile, software-modifiable current control for power transfer throughout a range of about 30 kW to 50 kW with uniformly good power factor and low harmonics without switching winding taps, and without requiring oil cooling.
Abstract: Apparatus for use in retaining a lamp in a housing include a member having a central opening, a first sidewall facing the central opening, a substantially opposing second sidewall facing away from the central opening, a front wall extending between the first and second sidewalls and a substantially opposing back wall extending between the first and second sidewalls. A plurality of spaced apart through holes passing through the member from the front wall to the back wall are provided. Each of these through holes include joined first and second openings. The first opening is located closer to the first sidewall and the second opening is located closer to the second sidewall. These members are particularly useful in combinations in which a lamp is located at least partially in a lamp housing. A member, as noted above, is provided in close proximity to the lamp face, for example, by fastener assemblies, to reduce the risk of the lamp falling from the housing, for example, during extreme storm conditions.
Abstract: A dual mode high intensity aircraft approach lighting system includes a plurality of lights interconnected by means of power wiring. An improved subsystem for detecting lamp failures is disclosed which permits a positive identification of individual failed lamps at a remote location, such as the control tower of an airport, for instance. The subsystem hardware consists of an operational monitor processor, three lamp controllers, one for each of three lighting loops, one remote lamp transceiver module per lamp, and existing ac loop wiring. The operational monitor processor board initiates a reset of the lamp controller and remotely installed transceiver units by sending a SAMPLE ALL signal to each lamp controller. A comprehensive test of all lamps in each of the three lighting loops is performed. The first lamp controller board sequentially polls each lamp for operational status in the first loop.
