  • Patent number: 6189901
Abstract: A compact, trailing, auxiliary axle system is attached to a truck for carrying additional weight and distributing the weight of the truck over a greater number of axles and a greater maximum total distance of distribution of those axles. The apparatus is attached high, and may be secured to the body of a truck, such as a refuse truck, reducing the total length of extension from the rear of the truck, yet pivoting from a comparatively high position for easy stowage above the bubble or bulkhead protruding from the tailgate of a truck. Hydraulic actuation relies on pulling, during deployment, providing improved resistance to buckling, protection from road damage, with short coupling for improved strength of booms, hydraulics, and cross members. Conduits may carry control and power through the frame of the assembly, and conventional suspension components may be used.

  • Patent number: 5486149
Abstract: A one way clutch is rotatable with a member (e.g. helical spring) and a sleeve while the spring is being constrained by the manual winding of a cable on the sleeve. The sleeve is constructed to wind the cable uniformly on the sleeve. During the constraint imposition, the clutch drives a shaft and a disc. One disc surface abuts bearing liners affixed to a casing. The other disc surface is separated from the spring. Calibrated numbers are printed on the casing periphery. A dial externally supported by, the casing is rotatable relative to the casing to any of the calibrated numbers to adjust the friction force between the liners and the disc when the disc is rotated. The casing is vented at its opposite ends. When the spring is being constrained or the constraint is being released, air flows through the vents and through the space between the successive turns in the spring and past the disc to cool the disc.

  • Patent number: 4641715
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for driving or retracting ground rods or other rod-like members and preferably includes an element for forcibly urging a body portion in longitudinal directions generally parallel to the rod or rod-like member being driven or extracted, opposed jaw members slidably connected to the body portion for receiving rod or other item to be driven therebetween, and abutment members fixed to the body portion for forcibly urging the jaw members laterally toward one another into a gripping engagement with the rod, thereby forcibly urging the jaw members and the rod or rod-like member in a driving longitudinal direction. The body portion of the ground rod driving or extracting apparatus is preferably interlockingly connectable to various adapter or anvil apparatus for use with either manual or powered force-applying devices and for interchangeable use with such devices in either rod-driving or rod-retracting operations.

  • Patent number: 4482116
Abstract: The invention comprises an adjustable support to retain the mouths of commonly available plastic film garbage and leaf bags fully open. The bag mouth support folds and unfolds into a compact shape for packaging and for storage. Fully open the support is of substantially square or rectangular shape with one of the sides telescopingly adjustable to increase or decrease the perimeter length of the support.

  • Patent number: 4461454
Abstract: A two piece valve accessory for common caulking tubes or cartridges insertable in caulking guns is disclosed. The valve permits resealing of the cartridge nozzle, snout or applicator tip without hardening or significant wastage of the material therein and permits increased control of the flow rate of material from the cartridge. The valve is adjustable from fully open to closed position and includes a separate sealed or dome extended position wherein the residue from the applicator tip of the valve is expelled. The valve barrel includes an integral piercing edge to break the cartridge seal as the valve is inserted into the applicator tip of the cartridge. The barrel is sized and ribbed for an interference non-rotatable fit within the applicator tip. The valve cap is fully rotatable on the barrel and includes a beveled tip to direct material in any radial direction relative to the caulking gun handle.

  • Patent number: 4013207
Abstract: A curved pin provided with an enlarged planar solid or open head lying in the plane of the shank of the pin and extending inwardly therefrom together with an apparatus for holding a plurality of such pins and inserting each pin sequentially are provided. The curved pin is particularly useable by one who sews when it is desired to, for example, affix a pattern to a piece of fabric or the like. The pin's curved shape facilitates its insertion and positioning with less difficulty and more accuracy than the well known straight or "common" pin. The inserting apparatus holds a number of pins in a magazine and allows for their individual insertion by means of a rotatable, generally arcuate shaped plunger which moves each pin along an arcuate path and inserts it into the fabric at an acute angle to the fabric.
